For the LX and S, the 8” infotainment uses Sirius Travel Link to get data for weather, sports, stocks, fuel prices, and movie showtimes.Where does the car get its information from? Satellite link?
Thanks. That's interesting, so does any of this require a subscription? If I go out of cell range does the forecast data stop updating? It must right? For the LX and S, the 8” infotainment uses Sirius Travel Link to get data for weather, sports, stocks, fuel prices, and movie showtimes.
For the EX and SX trims, the 10.25” infotainment uses HD Radio to get data for traffic, doppler radar, and fuel prices. Also for weather forecast on older software versions than v14.0. Otherwise weather forecast data is from Foreca/Viasala via cellular data.
And if I wanted to theoretically commit a crime, even if I left my cell phone at home, my car is still tracked it sounds like. All that location, behavior, speed information is definitely valuable to someone. Going to get tin-foil hat here for a second, but convincing us to let them track us by advertising it as a "feature" is quite shrewd. Not like I don't already take my cell phone everywhere.Thanks. Most likely Sirius Travel Link requires a paid subscription. Maybe a LX or S owner can confirm this.Thanks. That's interesting, so does any of this require a subscription? If I go out of cell range does the forecast data stop updating? It must right?
Kia is totally collecting data from the cell/gps module in the car. I would like to think if you don’t activate UVO services they would not track you, but once you buy the car, I bet they start tracking anyway. The ultimate goal is likely to sell your data to ad agencies who can determine your intereststs based on your habits/frequent locations. And if I wanted to theoretically commit a crime, even if I left my cell phone at home, my car is still tracked it sounds like.
