• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Hello. Owner of a new 2021 Gravity Gray SX Nightfall Prestige with towing package. Really loving it so far.

I have a question about which octane to use. I know the manual says 87 is recommended. I use Costco gasoline so it is Top Tier. Is there any advantages to use the highest octane choice or am I just wasting 30 cents a gallon? Thanks in advance.

No benefit on this engine. Stick to 87 all the time. Putting lower octane in an engine that requires higher is a problem but this engine is designed for 87.

Thanks for the quick replies.

I use Costco also (which, by the way, is only 86 octane here in Albuquerque). It is Top Teir gas, however. Am I concerned that it's only 86 and not 87? Nope. I had used Costco gas in my Hyundai Santa Fe for years with no issues at all. And by the way, I don't know if the gas has anything to do with it, but I've been averaging between 25-26 MPG with a fair mix of hiway and city driving.

Octane ratings are measures of fuel stability. These ratings are based on the pressure at which a fuel will spontaneously combust (auto-ignite) in a testing engine. The higher an octane number, the more stable the fuel.
