• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... I am having a hard time figuring out how to get these two to play nicely together. Here are my issues:

I have wireless CarPlay set up using the Carlinkit 2.0 dongle and it works great.

I really dislike the Kia Nav system and don’t ever use it. I am using Apple Maps and some other apps on CarPlay. However, I do like to listen to the radio while driving at times. This is all I really want to access from the Kia system.

I have tried using CarPlay in full screen and split screen but I can’t find a way to prevent the radio display from taking over the whole screen when I push the Radio button or the mode button. And then it’s a hassle to get the screen back to CarPlay, which sometimes seems to turn the radio off.
Also, for some reason, I am not getting spoken directions from Apple Maps, despite checking all the settings.
It just seems like the two systems are battling for control all the time.

Does anyone have a rational approach to how to juggle the two systems?
Thanks!

It might be because Apple music app is trying to auto play. Try going into your iphone settings:

Settings>Music>Show Apple Music (toggle this off).

Another cause would be if you use Safari (or other browsers) or play video games on the iPhone while plugged into the data port. It will automatically switch the audio source to the iPhone on-screen app. Unfortunately there is no workaround for this scenario. Would just need to press mode on the steering wheel to get back to the radio source. Alternatively set your favorite (star) button to phone projection. Then press favorite right after pressing radio to get back to carplay.

Have you tried the standard USB cable to connect your iPhone instead of using the Carlinkit 2.0? If you can isolate the problem to this, that would tell you the issue is not with the iPhone or with CarPlay, but with the dongle itself.

Thanks for the advice. The star button is a nice workaround. There was no difference connecting to CarPlay by cable vs wireless. Now the only thing I have to try to fix is the lack of spoken directions with maps. No iOS map app is giving me spoken directions!

I had to turn the volume up in the CarPlay settings to hear the directions.

There’s a separate volume control for Carplay? How do I access this?
