Giving up

It's definitely been one of the most perplexing and poor purchasing experiences in my life. Sure, putting my name down 10 weeks ago was really easy, but no updates during that time is simply inexcusable. I was going to buy two on the spot but decided to wait to see if I liked the first one. Kia almost certainly won't be getting money for the second one. I'll likely be leasing an X3 M40i for $50/mo less than the Telluride whenever it actually shows up (likely March at the earliest).

I think the most frustrating part of the wait is that it is for a super basic build --SX, AWD, Ebony Black, Black interior. I'm not asking for a obscure color combination, this is as basic as they come. Meanwhile, my dealership keeps getting low optioned, obscure colors and FWD vehicles which don't move.

Exactly my point. Kia hit the homerun with the Telluride and are getting all the accolades and hardware that goes with it.

Hence you have all these new Kia customers...or "bandwagoneers" as you described them, trying out this new brand. Because none of the other vehicles (with a few exceptions, e.g. Stinger) Kia made was "good enough" for their own set of needs/standards to leave what other brand loyalty they have with the other manufacturers. Just my humble opinion.

I can agree with that. I've never been loyal to any brand but a understand that many are. I just buy what I like (Buick, Toyota, Honda, Kia, Hyundai, Mazda and Chevy were all in my fleet over the last 15 years) But when I hear people say, "the Telluride is the first Kia worth buying" all I can do is laugh. No one in this thread said that but I've heard quite a few times.

I have a friend loyal to Acura and a cousin, loyal to BMW who are both into Kia now based on my ’16 Sorento. The BMW lover already has a Telluride and the Acura loyalist is shopping for one now (current MDX owner). They both laughed back in 2016 when I told them I got a Kia. After some seat time, they noticed things like the microfiber headliner, power thigh extension, illuminated sill plates, stitched dash, brake hold, etc. They were like, "this is a Kia?"

Point is, the Telluride is just a larger Sorento (same platform). When introduced, a loaded SX Telluride was actually CHEAPER than a loaded '19 Sorento SX V6. While the Telly added some new features Kia actually removed a few things, like 4 way lumber, illuminated scuff plates, stainless steel plates, articulating headlamps and piano black steering wheel rim and seat backs from the Telluride that were on the SXL Sorento. I would also say the Sorento actually had more soft touch plastics on the inside compared to the Telly. My point is, everything is relative when people say certain things like Kia's before now we're trash.

End rant.

After months of frustration, shifting dates, the worst dealers in the auto industry we are giving up on the Telluride. Going to upgrade to a real luxury model. Where you don’t have to pop off and replace the name badge. We have been to countless Kia dealers, the same bait and switch tactics, lying & cheating. I can only imagine how service will be and based on reviews it’s not good. I am happy for those who were able to get what they wanted and not get taken advantage of, as well as getting it in a reasonable timeframe. We just couldn’t put all that together.
Hopefully the fair dealers will prevail especially the ones on here. But the ones we dealt with soured the entire brand for us. We won’t be back.
Good luck to the hopeful on your quest.
Hello I understand your frustrations , I too at one point started to shop around for a different SUV .even though I had ordered a telluride in July . I too didn't get any information or status in my order . So I test drove a passilade , Nissan Pathfinder , VW Atlas and Subaru . The third row was no small all of them , they cost alot more for the option compared to the telluride. So I decided to wait . I am glad I did , the Kia is an amazing SUV , I get comment about the Kia , like what is it , did it cost alot or is it a range Rover ..

I have a friend who owns a Mercedes SUV that said like Kia telluride better then his SUV. That says something

What if... the OP gives up and buys a “real luxury” such as the Range Rover and is waiting for service in his first week of ownership... he gets a call from the Kia sales guy saying his SX is ready for delivery?

I'll be happy w/ 12 weeks, but when you hear many on here talking about waits of 4-6 months being the new average. That's anywhere from 16-26 weeks.

3rd row in a Range Rover is a joke at best, like the BMW X5 as well (an afterthought to say they have 3 row SUVs). Heck, 3rd row in a Tahoe/Yukon/Escalade is abysmal (supposedly new one coming out next year addresses that big time probably thanks to the Telly and Expedition). Any event, you can get real solid lease deals on the Range Rover Evoque (i.e. $349/month) pretty consistently. If I didn't need a large 3 row then I would go that route. On a RR though, I'd only ever lease... we all know reliability just isn't there.

I'm coming up on 14 weeks, so I guess I'm making the average higher...
I ordered the exact same vehicle in mid October and received it last Saturday. The fact that the dealership that I used is only 12-15 miles from the KIA plant is likely relevant, but you need to have faith in the integrity of the sales staff to insure that the vehicle arrival dates are accurate (they all get an update on their orders weekly). If they give you the run around, you may have much better success in cutting your losses (the $1,000 deposit) and finding a new more reliable dealer. I went through KIA of LaGrange and there was no drama or nonsense during negotiations. I'm totally loving my Telluride and I'm recommending that you hang in there to get yours.

I went through Kia of Muncie, so reliability isn't an issue! Did you actually order yours, like have an order ID, or was it an allocation that the dealership had received? I'm annoyed at the wait time for sure, and the anticipation is killing me, but I still haven't waited as long as some people. If I get to the six month mark and don't have it, then I'll really start to do some research on order/acquisition dates for the same model/color/type of vehicle I ordered. For now, building up my down payment and scrolling the forum daily!

Mine was an order through the dealer (actual purchase order) and I took delivery at just under 60 days as promised by the dealership. Good luck.

I understand your frustration! After 8 long months ours finally arrived a few days ago. We had given up and told our good friend @ Weston Kia that we decided buy a 2020 GMC Acadia Denali, but it was going to take 2 months to get one. he then said okay, but when it does come in I will give you a call just in case you change your mind. 2 weeks later we got the call. Your SX is here. So we went to look at it & loved it so much we decided to buy it. Good luck with your next choice & just maybe one day you change your mind like us.
