• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Welllllll.....have not tried true "off roading" and am not sure that the model I have (SX P ) is really designed for true off roading....more into the "comfort and luxury" aspect with high quality AWD as an optional feature. There would be several other qualities/features that I would want if I were going to take it "off road>"

I go to the grocery store with my Telluride. Does that count?

Have seen some reviews where Telly did perfectly fine on rough muddy roads . Thanks to proper gripping and good engine power.
Though not perfect for extreme off roading.
But still one would not shy taking it out on gravel or small puddles

A dry grassy parking field with a patch of mud to get through. AWD with transfer lock engaged, tried smart and snow modes, tried slow and fast, tried rocking back and forth... nothing. The mud wasn’t even that bad, but the Telly was spinning and sliding like there’s no tomorrow.

All season tires played a big role I am very sure, but damn, an AWD SUV which Kia claimed to have given it everything can’t even get itself together in a mere few inches of mud. I am beyond disappointed.

I got stuck in a level farmers field that felt slightly soft underfoot with a heavy-duty 4x4 pickup with locking diffs and very aggressive tires. Took a tractor to tow me out. I doubt your getting stuck had much to do with the Telluride. Some pretty benign-looking mud conditions can be absolutely impassable in almost any vehicle.

The Telluride has had a good showing at the 2019 Mudfest (won for the mid and full-size family segment) and was the overall- runner up.

In addition to doing well at the Texas Off-Road Invitational 2019.

Sometimes it's just a bad mix of the viscosity of the mud and the tires.

Those tires don't look like the stock tires on the Telluride.

Saw a cullnan video at that event recently! This guy has some great overland videos with the telluride, granted he did make a few changes to the vehicle.

Non stock tires change everything. That needs to be disclosed in these tests.

Several years ago I remember seeing a Tesla article touting it's weight distribution contributing to it's snow performance with RWD and you could clearly see in the tread pattern that it was running snow tires. They didn't bother to mention that in the article.

With Blizzaks, my '87 300E RWD and zero traction aids ran like a 4WD in a blizzard across the PA Turnpike about 25 years ago.

I've been sold in snow tires ever since.

Snow and ice in the hills of Vermont recently.....kept it in "snow" with the diff locked and the trans in manual ( moving between 2nd and 3rd) OEM tires max speed 15 and all was well! As good as my previous Explorer, the Escalade before that, and the MB GL before that........would I take any of em into "off road" mud? ....don't think so.IMG_0099.webp

You could still see the threads which means the snow conditions isn't bad and you still have traction. In my case, the tires litterally became spinning mud cakes, flat surface with zero traction whatsoever.

Wouldn't be surprised if they shod the competitors (within a segment) w/ the same rubber.

For traction, whether it be mud, rain or snow - having the appropriate tires is most important.

Absolutely . .....If what you HAVE does not do the job , then get what you NEED!

Took my Telluride on the soft beaches of Long Island. It went pretty well in spite of ground clearance issues. The ruts on the beach can get deep and most vehicles will scrape bottom. Aired-down to 15psi and kept up momentum. I wasn't with any friends so I didn't push my luck with any tricky maneuvers. When backing into the spot it felt like traction control was still on even though I turned it off. I'll give updates as I get more beach time in.

Add a good set of snow tires, and you're golden anywhere. Or add a good set of off road tires, and you're golden anywhere. Stick to the All Season tires that the car comes with, go off road, and make sure to have a sat phone, so you can call for help. Signal is not that good, sometimes.

Mud, like sand can consist of very different elements. There's clay mud where a vehicle will literally slide sideways like in ice, While other mud can be navigable on all season tires. and there's sand (Daytona Fla) that you can drive a Corvette on while the sand here in Long Island is like sugar and you can get stuck in an F350 if you don't air down like I saw on Sunday. And wet grass can be worse than both.
