• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... HD Radio Data

Thanks @jw_tx21. I'm not going crazy. I tried to find an update referenced in this and other threads and thought I just hadn't looked in the right places.

Definitely an oversight. But the Telluride's been out now for over a year and they ought to have had a solution sooner.

Mike

P.S. Anxiously awaiting v14.5! And it better be free - no asterisk!

Kia told me this is bologna- that UVO and maps have NOTHING to do with any of the HD signals - personally I believe you but they will not own up to it. I have been experiencing issues with HD signal for the entire time I have had it. After my UVO subscription expired it magically worked. At that point an open Kia techline case ordered that the antenna be replaced, so it was. After that I reactivated UVO subscription and boom HD signal not working. Asked Kia to reopen the case again - what a nightmare! I cannot get dealer to do the map update - they tell me it is up to date and since tech line case did not specify it should be done they wont do it.

You are correct.... sort of. I can only attest to the new US-based map update, not the Canadian version. For the US, weather is now a function of UVO, No more reliance on HD Radio. Weather data is provided by Foreca (Foreca - Wikipedia) through the UVO server and is synched w/GPS. While under Nav guidance, weather will be displayed for both your current location (as you travel) and destination. Nice touch. Two thumbs up on the new US map update.

Aside from traffic updates and weather, it doesn’t.

But those are the things I am having issues with :( Is there something from anything official at Kia that I can refer them back to?? Seems ridiculous that the info is out there somehow but they won't own up to it.

How is the HD radio reception in your area? can you confirm it works fine in other vehicles? Some regions don’t broadcast HD signals strong enough or at all. Causing intermittent function or no function at all of the HD radio features.

It works fine when my vehicle is not subscribed to UVO and I am in an area that according to the map should have HD signal. I have had some intermittent HD radio signal issues but since I have re-subscribed to UVO it is working ok. It is now just the weather and the traffic that does not work. There is another Telluride at my son's daycare and they have no issues with HD signals. I am not sure if they still have UVO or not.

Traffic and weather no longer rely on HD radio signals with the Spring 2020 update. 100% based on UVO connected (4G) service. Install the update and you will receive traffic and way improved weather service. Your UVO subscription needs to be active to receive these services with the update. Enjoy the ride.

Most owners will probably not extend their UVO subscription when it ends. So after updating, they will essentially lose the traffic/weather forecast service. If owners don’t have working HD radio signals to begin with, then it doesn’t change anything.

Unless update 14.5 figures a free way to get these services.

Is there a specific tech bulletin that substantiates these statements and clearly names the update needed that I can provide to my dealer? I am not getting much support on this even with an open tech line case.

I can't comment about weather or not the subscription is a good or bad thing. I'm simply stating facts about the functionality of the the update and associated UVO services. Bottom line: If owners want a more immersive weather experience that does NOT rely on HD radio, it will cost. Both in the updated software ($25 USD) and the UVO subscription.

This is not a mandatory update, hence no TSB. More details on the latest update here: 2020 update 1 Available

Enjoy the ride

I asked my salesman from kia and he told me the he radio data is no longer available... Is that true ?

I wouldn't care so much about a UVO subscription if my 2020 had remote start. Sure do regret not waiting until the 2021 model. Who would've thought that the Telluride wouldn't come with remote start from the key fob from day 1?

We all have phones now with weather apps, I don’t see this as an benefit. Or if you’re using google/apple maps there is weather related delay it shows on your maps as an delay.
HD radio has better sound quality. You get more stations since 1 station can broadcast 3 other programs at the same time. Usually, the programming is a different genre on each "station". Example 94.7-1, 94.7-2, 94.7-3, 94.7-4 will each have their own programming. Some of these channels have less advertising.

FYI: Only HD stations owned/operated by iHeartMedia (and Bell in Canada) transmit traffic/weather information.

FWIW, Canadian owners get five years of UVO (now Kia Connect) service as part of vehicle purchase. I'm surprised that this isn't the case in the US as well. Normally the folks south of our border get the deals and we get the shaft, so this isn't a typical situation.

I noticed that someone talked about the $25 update fee. That's only the case if you buy a pre-loaded USB stick with the nav and head unit update content pre-loaded. If you already own, or are willing to spend $15, you can buy a 64GB USB stick and obtain the update content for free... twice per year. And you can use that same USB stick over and over and over. The only effort involved is installing a desktop app, and downloading the 30GB of data to the stick via the app.... and of course waiting a half hour for it to install in your vehicle.

This is, unfortunately, no longer the case. I just purchased a Sorento and it only came with three years of Kia Connect. I was surprised and they said they no longer give the 5 year plan to Canadian customers like I got with my 2020 Telluride. The other thing I noticed is that the features on the app change per vehicle model. For example, I can take pictures from the built-in cameras on the app. It also gives me other notifications such as low washer fluid.

Unfortunate that they're cutting down on the free term length, but still better than the one year they get in other places. The real question will be what decision I make when my free access runs out in 2025.

Exactly my thought since my Telluride did not come with remote start on the key fob.
