  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Hi, I am new to this forum and this is my first post. Thanks for accepting me!
My wife wants a new Telluride and I believe we have found the exact one she wants. It's a new 2021, SX, FWD. At first I thought I wanted an AWD SUV but after reading up on the subject (on this site and others} I am now not so sure.
We live in Southern California so have no snow or ice concerns. We are not "off-roaders" and are just looking for a reliable SUV.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated,

Cheers,
Hal

Have you looked at the Prestige option? Might be something to consider. Good luck finding a dealer there that isn’t charging well above MSRP. You may have to travel to find a good deal. Good luck

Hi @Hal 9000:

We'll help you out when you open the pod bay doors! :ROFLMAO:

Kidding. AWD is great for Southern California and you never know when you might want to flee the state through canyons and deserts and snowy mountains and there is black ice over many passes in winter.

Y'all like the beach, right? AWD is great with sand and drifting dirt and whatever the Santa Ana winds bring us. And even though "It Never Rains In Southern California", it most assuredly does once in a blue moon, right?

AWD Telluride SX Prestige w/ Towing (you don't have to tow anything, but the self-leveling shocks help address sag when you make those trips to VONS, Ralph's, Walmart, Lowe's, Turner's, Costco, Home Depot, Trader Joe's, AmaWholePaycheckazon or if you load up the cargo area with dogs, and boxes or cases of Paso Robles/Santa Maria wine in heavy wooden boxes.

It's better to have a Telly AWD and not need it, than need a Telly AWD and not have it, right? :)

You can always switch to Eco mode and the Telly will be 90% FWD biased and plant gorgeous Jacaranda trees on the side of the freeway that will blossom the best in late May to early June from Santa Barbara to Camarillo :)

The Telley will replace my wife's Hyundai. My wife needs it more as she works and I am retired :) . I will drive the Hyundai, and 91 Ford Ranger that I am restoring.
BTW, some dealers have really jacked up there prices here on So, California. I walked out on a dealer who added $10K to MSRP and would not come down. Fotunately, there are dealers here who are much more reasonable,
Cheers!!

What's your time frame for purchase.

More flexibility = more options.

If you can wait possibly 3-6 months to get an AWD Telluride order into the KFOS system, there's a few places I could recommend that sell at MSRP + tax/title/license but there's a line of people waiting for their dealers' allocations to come up each month and it could take a while.

FWD could be much faster. I don't like Nightfall edition, but those do come up faster if you like the blacked-out look.

I waited 3.5 months for my AWD SX-P/T but it was well worth it.

I believe the line is much longer at Hilltop Ford/Kia now, but if you have the time to wait in the line to get your order in, I'd rather do that than burn 6-10K for perhaps a Telly on the lot that's available now but maybe not exactly what you want in terms of exterior color, interior color, trim level, etc. :)

Dune Brown is the correct answer by the way. Both Dave and HAL 9000 from the Jupiter mission would agree :)

Welcome to the Telly Forum, This is hands down the best SUV for the money. If you are new to the search for one I wish you luck as they are not easy to come by. Best option might be to order one at MSRP.

If you don't think you'll need it you probably won't and will save yourself a bunch of money at initial purchase going with a FWD and better mileage for the life of the vehicle. I think FWD is pretty over rated unless you are someone who goes places and really uses it. I used the telly-stats.herokuapp.com site to stalk mine. It takes a little getting used to but once you figure it out you can what is going where and you can check on them before they even get there.
