  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Hi!

My wife and I test drove a Telluride last Friday over here in Houston and absolutely fell in love. It looks like inventory is pretty thin when it comes to the SX Prestige Package and we were looking into what we would have to do to place an order for exactly what we would want. This place seems like our best bet so far for advice when it comes to this sort of thing.

Does anyone have any suggestions for where we should start looking / who we can make down payments to? We want an SX Prestige Package Telluride that isn't black or white and doesn't have a black interior.

Thanks so much for providing this resource!

Welcome aboard! And thank you for signing up. I'm glad you found us! What might the Telluride are replacing for you? There's lots of reading you can do in our "How to Buy a Kia Telluride" section...

Check with (a) Fort Bend Kia, (b) @StephenCantrelle at Classic Kia of Carrollton near Dallas or (c) @Javier Ferrer at Sterling Kia in Bryan.

Hi Logic, I recommend Kia Fort Bend in Rosenberg. One of the first things Helen told me was they offer MSRP. I built the vehicle to my liking and will most likely be waiting 4-6 months as it’s a NFE. Only been a month so far...

Sorry! Been crazy busy with the kids' schooling the past few weeks. Remote learning with two kids and two remote-working parents is hard.

We are trying to upgrade our 2010 Honda CR-V as our main family vehicle. I have a 2010 Honda Fit Sport MT that I'll probably be trading in (and then the CR-V will become mine 😔 - gotta take one for the team).

It seems like Kia Fort Bend is a good option, I'll reach out to some of their people today. Does anyone have a recommended salesperson who can take a deposit and order specific options? We're motivated buyers with good credit who can move quickly but are willing to wait.

Will be perusing the purchasing forum but whoa there's so much material!

Before I found this list, I had had success with Cowboy Kia in Conroe offering MSRP. I don't know how much Telluride volume they do, but they have been very transparent that the order system is paused until they open it up for 2022 orders in the next few days. I'd have started with Fort Bend if I had found this list.

I ended up getting an SX Prestige from Westside Kia. They happened to have one in stock (although apparently most high-trim stock is sold before it even gets delivered to the dealer).

re: custom orders - they have repeatedly told me that they haven't been able to do custom orders "since about January" and insisted that other dealers that had offered to do it in the past were stringing people along. I guess they were just misinformed or they were only doing custom orders for their top clients? I had different people at various dealers all tell me different stories.

Westside Kia also gave me some scare tactics about how other dealers would "say they'd order" and then sell it out from under me for more. So I don't put much stock in what they're saying. I'm sure there are some who will do it the old fashioned way. My job is to find one and be patient. :)

Hope you love the SX Prestige! Congrats!

Now that I have the car and it’s been over an month, I just wanted to get this off my chest.

I have absolutely no idea if this is normal but it left a huge turd taste in my mouth and made me think that car dealerships are all the same and it’s the same shitty experience to buy a car that it was 20 years ago. I feel gross now thinking back to it.

In the course of our dealing Westside Kia told me the following (I know a lot of this is false but this is what they told us, a 30-something married couple, in our two days there):
  1. All Kia dealerships stopped being able to preorder custom Tellurides at the end of last year.
  2. Customers stopped being able to custom order stuff in January, period. I told them that I was on this site and what I had read. They spoke heavily about other dealerships scamming people by “getting them on the waiting list and then stringing them along indefinitely. They will keep them until what they ordered comes along… eventually.” I should have asked how that was illegal - but I wanted my damn car.
  3. Dealerships have no idea what inventory is coming in shipments. It may be a spattering of different trims but they have no idea what trims are actually available.
  4. There’s no way to preorder a car that’s coming in on a shipment this upcoming weekend, even with money down.
  5. Actually - there is a way to preorder a car with money down but 4 of the 6(? I forget the actual number but this is ballpark) are SX Prestige and 3 of those are already pre-purchased.

Makes you wonder how 3 of the 4 are presold if there's no way to prepay for the cars, huh?

I normally enjoy the dealership experience because as the customer you can normally negotiate fairly well from position of strength. This year, though, and especially with this car, that's not the case - I'm just happy to have found a reputable dealer nearby and not have to deal with the scum that you had to deal with :-/

Being an informed customer has its down side. :) Enjoy that car!
