So this might be a stupid question, so I apologize in advance lol. I have an EX with a trailer hitch. I have an old bike rack that I want to use. Yesterday when I walked around to the back the hatch started to go up on its own like it usually does. What happens if I put a bike rack on the back? How does the hatch not automatically go up and possibly cause damage to the car with a bike rack on it? Is there a setting I am missing to stop the hatch from going up?

Yes there is a setting to bypass auto tailgate.
Go to user settings, door, smart liftgate uncheck
Go to user settings, door, smart liftgate uncheck

Yep. You need to turn the smart liftgate function off. Otherwise you will maul your liftgate...

With a bike rack (Hollywood Rack) installed and with the rack folded or open I can open the hatch without a problem. If the bike is installed on the rack I can't open the rear hatch. Can be disabled from opening if you need to. OR don't load the rack/bike with the key fob nearby.
Which model bike rack do you have? My old rack holds 4 bikes and it is now just me and hubbie, so looking for one that holds 2 bikes.

Sport Rider by Hollywood Racks. I bought this model because my electric bike is heavy. Either way this is an awesome unit.

- I have a 4-bike Yakima, 2" tow-mount rack. I never need to haul more than 2 bikes, so I shortened the bike-holding bars (2) by ~13". However, since I MAY want to carry 4 bikes someday, I purchased a piece of pipe with a slightly smaller inside diameter than the rack bar. Now I can re-add the cut bars back on if ever needed or if I decide to sell the rack someday.
- Additionally, for long trips with a single bike, I made a fork mount bar for the back. Took an old fencepost, purchased a fork mount clamp, and spray painted it black. I need to take off the front tire and it holds the bike solid. Great for long trips when you don't want the bike left outside. This operation requires one middle seat to be laid down.
- Finally, I am able to drop (one pin) the hitch mount with the bike mounted, and then open the hatch.

The gate will not open without recognizing the key fob, and there is a delay/countdown. I never had a problem. The reverse obstacle alarm goes crazy but I usually leave it on....it reminds me that the bikes/bike rack is there and to allow for it when backing up.
