• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... High idle in park or at stop

Wondering if anyone has come across this.

I have a 2021 SXP with 78k on it. I am second owner, so no Kia warranty left.

Here is the issue. I have noticed recently that the Telluride will idle high in park, or at a stop in gear. This usually sits around 1K RPMs, which it should be more around the 700-800 RPM range normally from my experience. I can restart the vehicle, and this seems to reset the high idle issue for a while but seems to come back in most cases.

No check engine light is thrown so I'm not sure if bringing it to a local shop to have it scanned will reveal much.

Any thoughts would be great.

Welcome back.
Some auto part stores will scan your vehicle for free..

I have 2022 Telluride Ex with same exact concern. Still no CEL. so parts store scanning will not help.

So now I have CEL light with the following codes -
  • p21a100
  • p219d00
Both are injector related, which I find odd as I just had placed a bottle of Techron in it to see if that would help with the high idle.

I do have an oil catch can installed so I may remove that to see if it has introduced a vacuum leak, but I have had it on since Feb 2025 without any prior issues.

Anyone have any experience with these codes?

I personally dislike "P Codes." They are generic and many of them point to a different (same family, but ultimately different) part of a system.
A quick Google search, shows one of the codes can be a "Air/Fuel Imbalance."
I would be looking at your catch can.
If it were in my shop, it would be getting a smoke test.

EDIT:
My favorite example:
Fuel pressure regulator goes bad and the fuel pressure is too high for trimming to be made by the engine computer to bring about corrective action.
Most usually the FIRST and most persistent code to pop up?
The upstream Oxygen Sensor. Because the fuel mixture is TOO RICH.

You can change out 100 O2 sensors, you will NOT correct the issue.
P Codes are a guide, not a mechanic in a scanner!
