• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... I was wondering if anyone has had any luck modifying the wiring for the HomeLink garage door opening to only have power with the ignition on? It seems like a big security flaw to have it powered all the time. Anyone could smash your window and open your garage if it is parked in the driveway.

Interesting point.

But how many take out their hand-held garage door opener when they leave the vehicle and go in the house?
I know I always leave mine attached to the visor.

Or, the other option, *park inside the garage*.

I use my remote garage door opener in the car but it's hidden nicely and easily accessible.

They could even just smash a window and get in your house just as easily. I doubt someone breaking into your car they will look for a home link button, they want the car or something in the car.

I share this security concern. Have always taken my remote in the house with me and thought the Homelink would be convenient, but I don't like that it works with the ignition off. I have just set it up a few minutes ago on my brand new 2022 Telluride, now thinking of de-programming the Homelink garage button.

This really is basic security, I would have expected Kia to have this taken into account. It is not possible to know what anyone who breaks into your car has in mind, really.

After some research and testing: Yep, Homelink works with car locked. It appears this is how Homelink generally works on all cars. I'm astounded, but the easy solution is to not use it.

My Audi A5 has to have the ignition on to use homelink.

Interesting, homelink on our 21 only works when ignition is on. My feelings are kinda opposite. Since we park inside the garage I find it annoying to have to start the vehicle before being able to use homelink.
