  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... You can make direct contact with other people via "Conversations". However, if you're a new member, it takes some time to have this feature activated for your account. It's an automated process that works using various algorithms and not just your post count.

Unfortunately, this is a necessary evil as we've had too many people in the past sign up only to contact members behind the scenes with links to malicious websites. Considering this happens out of view, there's nothing our team can do to prevent it - other than simply making it difficult for these people to follow through with their malicious behavior.

If you don't have the ability to start a Conversation with another member, give it some time and keep participating in the community - and it shouldn't be too long before you can...

Is it possible for members who have the “conversation” privileges to initiate a direct message with a new member who does not have “conversation” privilege?

If so, the new member can just @ the member they are trying to DM in a public post to get their attention. Then swap contact info once the privileged member initiates a DM.

Yes, this should not be an issue - and a new member can participate in the conversation...

this is good information thanks. Do we also get the ability to view people's profiles after time too?

Is there any way to manually able pm/conversations for certain members?

I mostly need to be able to pm an admin/moderator since the spam filters are quite aggressive for posts. I don't have any way to send you the text of a post and have both contributed to some threads and been a member over 3 months. I think there have been a number of times where I even just gave up on trying to submit a post since I couldn't figure out why it was blocking the content which in no way was spam-like. I am currently just trying to respond to someone in a thread I started about ISLA and NSCC and the spam filters didn't like the content of my findings.

Spam is a major problem, making this situation a necessary evil. Please use the "contact us" link to get in touch about the message you're trying to get posted.

To note, the option to have direct conversations with other members opens-up over time. Otherwise, we have people signing up only to send malicious links to members...
