I read a quote from the Georgia plant manager to the effect they were NOT going to up capacity/rush production to meet demand, as doing so would sacrifice quality. I'd rather have a quality product than not, but easy for me to say since I already have one!

Ok...I stand corrected, a production increase from 60K to 80K units annually seems to in the works. Nothing better than ample supply to counter dealer pricing leverage.

I read a quote from the Georgia plant manager to the effect they were NOT going to up capacity/rush production to meet demand, as doing so would sacrifice quality. I'd rather have a quality product than not, but easy for me to say since I already have one!

That's fine, but then shift capacity from other vehicles in that plant or from other plants. I see tons of Palisade sitting on dealer lots around us, could pretty much grab whatever I wanted if I could get over the front end looks. Why not shift some production there over to Telluride if it's selling more (which it is in the US by a lot)? Yeah it'll take a little bit to ship them on boats from Korea, but not any longer than the 4-6 months it's taking many of us who are waiting.

I think that you underestimate the complexity and enormity of the the effort you're trying to suggest.

There's a lot more to car building than just putting parts together.

Sounds easy but it is extremly complicated. If it was that easy everyone would be doing it.

I get it, between line changes and adjusting the supply chain. Easiest would likely be the Korean plant making Palisade and making Tellurides there as well (i.e. ability to make both). It won't be quick, but it would allow for more flexibility and likely wouldn't have a big impact until later in 2020 for the 2021 MY.

It's just a matter of time (I'm estimating 8-12 months) before Kia catches up with the demand. Also, as soon as Honda or Toyota builds a better looking, better performing 3 row SUV that can compete with the Telly, most people will lean that way. (that could take several years though..) I do believe it will happen.

Actually the Koreans have been planning this for a long time(not Telluride) but how to leap frog Honda and Toyota. I remember in 2010 when they said they will instead of doing a face lift every 3-4 years and redesigned every 5 to 6 years(industry standard) they set out to do facelifts every other year and redesign every 3-4 years. They kept true to thier word on just about every model Kia/Hyundai offers.

Another thing a lot of people aren’t aware of they are extremely smart about redesigning one side (example Optima) then taking all professional and consumer reviews and applying that to the sister company. Redesigning the sister the following year(example Sonata)... then in turn taking that information and applying towards facelift on the original car(optima)..

They are crazy smart and that’s why style, design and appearance over the last decade is incredibly advance. In 10 years almost all models are in 3rd and some are in 4th gen under the Chief Audi designer that came to Kia in 2010..

I say all this to make the point by the time Honda and Toyota roll out the competition.. we will already be making next generation to lap them..

This was all gameplaned and trust me I laughed in 2010 when going through training but they are no joke..

Honestly amazing to see them deliver.

They talked about changing perceptions. Going luxury offering way more bang for dollar. Everything you have seen from them both in last few years

The next auto segment ripe for picking of sales is the $70K-$90K LARGE suv. Will Kia enter that USA market....? Time will tell but gotta think they would have great success bringing another winning product to compete with the Ford and Chevy offerings in that class.

That's great, and I really hope they can/do. However, the difference is that Toyota is producing/selling over 240k Highlanders a year and Honda is pushing out around 160k Pilots. In order to keep/maintain these customers they are going after, perceptions around the entire process needs to change. I can go get whatever I want on a Highlander or Pilot and get it today if I wanted. I guarantee a lot of people are saying screw it w/ Kia because they can't get one or have to wait 6 months or play games with shady dealers.

I'm still in the game because I can be for now. Any more mechanical issues w/ our current SUV or they tell us we can't get our Telluride until Memorial Day or something and we're more than likely out.

Agreed. No one anticipated this. Hype was crazy on the Stinger as well but nothing like this..

They will make corrections like they did half way through this year offering the EX Premium.. they don’t want to loose this momentum..

We will see how it plays out.

My Kia Optima was my first 6 years ago. I would never look back and I have had some very nice cars along the way. It’s a shame people don t give them any credit. Lol if it weren’t for this dam telluride coming out and people who never drove a Kia making such a hype I would be driving mine now and not waiting all these months!! They are great cars. I have never done anything in 6 years to the optima or cadenza that I now drive other than change the oil lol. Many people can t say that ......

Back in college a friend of mine had a K900 and from there I was hooked. When I was finally in the market a few years ago I got a Niro right away. With the improvements I've seen from Kia over the years - I don't see any reason I leave the brand and time soon.
