Looking for suggestions on finding a reputable independent KIA mechanic shop to get my Telluride serviced in Southern California, South Bay Area. The various dealers I dealt with when I was researching and buying my Wolf Grey SX-PN make me wanna avoid spending another dollar with any of them. Looking for a mechanic that has KIA diagnostic software and experience servicing Tellurides. Thanks

Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. Your best bet is to find a dealer with favorable reviews and go there. I can't see why any independent shop would want to invest the capital in something a very small percentage of owners would be interested in.

I do not want to drive 400 miles to get my car serviced. If you follow this forum it must be clear that there are plenty of Telluride owners that are not happy with SoCal Kia dealers. If one goes thru the hassle of buying your car interstate because all the local dealers are trying to shaft you, then looking for a non-dealer independent mechanic doesn't seem like a bad idea. To service that market may be a solid business opportunity. Generally I prefer independent mechanics who specialise in one or a few particular brands.

Part of buying a new car is having some kind of faith in the dealership. I would not of even considered a Telluride if my only option was to scramble around and search for any independent shop that "could" service my car. Granted, they aren't all perfect. For a brand new KIA, I feel confident enough that they can handle oil changes and wheel rotations which is about what I am expecting since the car is reported to be reliable. If not the one 15 minutes from me, perhaps the other 10 that are an hour away,
Not sure if you're a dealer shill, or what your story is PittPa. In my thread I asked if anyone knew of a reputable independent mechanic in Southern California. First you tell us how independent small business owners should run their business and that it is unlikely any entrepreneur would invest in the product(service) I'm looking for. Then for your next response you're telling me that I didn't buy the right brand/car and that you trust the dealers plenty.

All So Cal KIA dealers I dealt with are avaricious little gobshites that do not deserve more of my money, this has nothing to do with the build quality of my KIA Telluride, nor with the ease of servicing my car. I bought this car despite my experiences with Kia Dealers, not because of it. So if I can get my car serviced by a good independent mechanic, thereby avoiding spending more money on these useless dealers, I will. There are a few good dealers Interstate and I spoke to some of them. In the last few years KIA has started making better cars, attracting a lot more potential buyers, their network of dealers however are mostly still c- quality (one experiences a similar problem when you visit a Genesis dealer that is inside a Hyundai dealership). Poor dealers/salespeople are holding the KIA brand back.

I own a Lexus and a Cadillac. Very little faith in either of those dealerships, especially Cadillac. Can’t wait for my Telly to arrive so I can sell my 2015 Escalade. My impression of dealer mechanics is they mostly just unbolt parts and bolt new ones on. I’m sure there are some good ones I haven’t come across.
Good independent shops on the other hand can actually “fix” cars and typically save $$ in the end.
Bad independent shops can rip you off at best, make your life a nightmare at worst.
So I get where @clogwog is coming from. Should be someone in LA who fits the bill.

My wife and I each drove a Lexus, and I took the cars for service to Automotive Instincts in Woodland Hills. I sold my car and bought a Niro a few years back. We are getting a Telluride shortly. They have been and can handle the smaller non-dealer stuff. Good luck!
