  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
    If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Let's talk Carnival!!!!

Guys,
Americans,
why don't you like the name - carnival?

I'll take a shot at this, Kwim.

It's hard to define. A carnival is a traveling show with amusements, games and rides. It's temporary, a bit cheap and gaudy. The games are fun, but they're hard to win and kind of a rip-off. The word does not evoke quality, solidity, permanence or class.

I'm doing my best, anyone else want to help here?

@Kwim,

Ever visited Brazil, elsewhere in South America, or any Island in the Caribbean in February or early March? Or to the Carnival in NOLA that ends with "Mardi Gras" (french for "Fat Tuesday") the last day that you eat a lot before Lent?

I'm not against the word or the name, but I question if it's the best name for a big SUV-Minivan type vehicle aimed at larger families, that's all.

When I see the word Carnival, I think one of two things:

- Carnival, the celebration before Lent, and the next time I'll get a chance to visit NOLA during February to early-March.
- The Carnival Corporation, cruise ships and a few notorious cruises in recent memory, including the Costa Concordia disaster.

My take: There's already a lot going on with multiple kids. It's often exhausting. "Carnival" evokes noise and overstimulation which is exactly what most parents don't want during car rides (esp. long rides). Ironically, quite the opposite of "Sedona" which is a place of spiritual beauty and tranquility.

@Michi-Tell:

"Sedona" is a great name for a family minivan (y)

Thank. It is very interesting to hear your opinion. By the way, the Koreans originally called the car a carnival for this very reason: an association with a celebration, carnival, joy, etc. what you described. But when they decided to send the car to North America, they decided to change the name and it seems they were right.

I was surprised Kia was able to use the K5 name in the US to replace the Optima. Given that Chevy brought back the Blazer I thought they would hold onto a K5 Blazer reboot for the future but maybe Tahoe is all they care about now.
