Good morning! New to the forum here. A matter of fact, first time in any forum.

I've been looking for a family car for my wife for 6 months. We need to get into a SUV from her 2014 Lexus IS250. It's a great car for 2 but now that we have a infant, we need the space. Toyota Highlander Platinum and Traverse High Country were at the top of my list. My wife wanted the Traverse and I couldn't pull the trigger due to known transmission issues, cheap interior and well it kind of looks like a van from the front. (She is still mad at me as she doesn't fully understand the mechanic part of things) We looked into used Tahoe LTZ/Premier 2016/2017 but feared this would be too large for my wife to drive and poor fuel economy/limited cargo space.

I have spent hours and hours watching reviews and reading about the Telluride. Long story short, here I am looking to buy a Telluride SX-P with Tow Package in White. Don't really mind interior color, as they all look good. I never have bought a new car due to the inner "Dave Ramsey" in me but at this value I think it can be justified.

I can't bring myself to pay markup and have found a couple dealers getting what I want without markup by mid- Feb. Anyone know where I can get one sooner? I'm ready to buy now. Looking to buy in Utah, California, Nevada, Arizona?

Good luck in your search. We own a SWP-SXP and have been very happy with it. Southern California is a tough place to purchase at or near MSRP due to the high demand, especially for the SX-P. Couple of options in terms of advice...

1.) Purchase from Jason Fox using the Costco program from Muncie, Indiana. You will save about $1400 below MSRP which ultimately will pay for your shipping costs. You will have to wait 3-6 months for the vehicle to arrive from the time you place your order.

2.) Check out a website like cars.com or even the kia.com website. You will find matches for SWP-SXP and at that point can contact the internet managers at dealerships in the Southwest to negotiate a price. Make sure you get something in writing as we are all hearing about dishonest dealerships changing their price once you arrive. Keep in mind that they may add some add-ons to make the dealership money like paint protection, anti-theft devices, etc. and that may not be disclosed up front. This strategy will help you buy a car now if you can't wait 3-6 months.

Not sure where you live but the LA, Bay Area, and Phoenix areas have been reported to have 5k-10k "market adjustments." We live in SD and prices here seem to be a bit better. We purchased at MSRP from Weseloh in Carlsbad but had to pay about 1k over for a few dealer add-ons that were already on the vehicle so they could not be removed. I was happy with that price given the demand in our area and the extra finance rebate offerered a few months back ($1500).

Hope this helps...

I've called over 15 Kia Dealers in California. $5,000 - $15,000 markup. KIA of Paso Robles is the only one in California who says no markup but 5 month order time. Looks like I'll be flying to Arizona and driving home SX-P with Tow Package for sticker price. Hope the gas is less than $5,000 :D

I wouldn’t fly to AZ unless you get the whole deal done beforehand. Don’t leave open the possibility for last-minute dealer shenanigans.

You are going to have a hard time finding an SX-P by mid-February without paying extra. You don’t want to be in a hurry to buy this car. Mid-February might sound reasonable to you, but unfortunately it is still being “in a hurry”.

I agree - get a contract in writing signed by the dealer, not just an email. Been there done that, fortunately I only wasted a couple of hours driving time, plus had to cancel the insurance I ordered. I just checked dealer inventory in our area (MA) and several white with black interiors. I am getting emails saying they are not charging a markup anymore. Inventory is generally low. I attribute both to end of year inventory clearing.

Good advice. They said the SXP white with black interior with tow package has an ETA 2/14/19 and has been allocated to their store. Supposedly they have the build sheet but no VIN generated. Will get more info tomorrow. Definitely won’t fly out without a signed agreement.

On another note, one dealer in CA said they charge $4995 above list and getting one January 5th identical to the AZ build I’m looking at. The salesmen suggest I lease it and get some $4100 credit then buy out the lease. What’s that about? Sounds like a shady sales technique to me!

BTW- I feel crazy putting in this much effort to buy a car for full MSRP and driving it home 750 miles. Hope this car is worth it!

Yeah, shady. $4100 lease credit is with/without the markup! It's a 2 year lease, and the money factor is terrible.

Don't feel crazy, do it. It's worth it... 750 miles will be a pleasure. Good break in period. Note that Kia often has a finance rebate - it's currently $1000 (it could change by Feb). So, you could get MSRP less the rebate. Some dealers will try to add $1000 then take rebate and sell you the car at a total of MSRP. In any case, even if they want a few addons that total up to $1k, it's still worth it.

It will be worth it

I’m in AZ and you can’t find one at MSRP. I found 1 dealer who agreed to order it at MSRP. Ordered oct 12th and expected delivery is March.

And I don’t know how you did that with Camelback Kia. I went back and forth with them forever, and they would not let me order without the addons. Also, the last time I checked the Production Spreadsheet, they had only received three SX-Ps ever, so I think they are one of the lower volume dealers. Earnhardt Kia has received thirty-something SX-Ps, but they are even worse to deal with.

I was pretty surprised because at first they didn’t want to lower any of the addons. We will see when it actually arrives, fingers crossed! Luckily we are in a position we can wait because it looks like feb or March on delivery. I just hope they don’t try to screw with us.

I live in AZ and couldn't find one without a mark up, unless I ordered it, but even at the time they said they couldn't order the prestige package . I searched Kia's website and found the exact model I wanted (sounds like the same one you want, SWP-SXP-Tow). It was in Southern CA (Team Kia of El Cajon) and they sold at MSRP minus a couple dealer add ons that I couldn't get around, but at least they are practical add ons and not nitrogen in the tires. I had to wait a couple months because the one I saw was already accounted for, but they had an identical one coming shortly after. I love our white, with black interior SXP, be patient, its well worth it.

Do you have any pictures of the White with the Black Nappa? I just put a deposit down after confirming all the prices and facts on it. I am still on the fence between the white with Dune Brown and the white with Black Nappa. Do you like the light headliner and dark seats? The one I put deposit has the Black Nappa. I just want to make sure it looks as good at the Dune Brown interior. I heard the black Nappa leather is close to a dark grey as the black is a little light

I have a white sxp with dune brown. Its very classy. The interior was my priority then the exterior. Only considered colors that offered dune brown

I don't have any pictures, but we just liked the black, the nappa stitching looks very nice. I think all the colors look really nice, we just went with black cause of the fact we have a 2 year old, so figured that was the best bet. Also to kinda go with the theme of the white paint and black wheels, kept it at two colors instead of having a white car with black wheels with brown interior.

Alex,
Had the same issue with most dealers here in Phoenix. Went to Royal Kia in Tucson in November and ordered what we wanted EX with Premium Package, AWD with Tow, Black on Black. Talked to Jesus Camargo at MSRP. Still waiting on factory confirmation on assembly schedule. Was told 4 to 6 months.
