  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... About a month ago I paid a $1000 deposit for a Telluride SX, the dealer told me he was submitting the order for the colors and features I wanted. I asked him for more details of the order today, and he told me this:

As the vehicles arrive at port, they look to see if they match an open pre-sold order and if so the vehicle gets allocated to the dealership with the pre-sold order. If there is no matching pre-sold order then the vehicle gets distributed as dealership inventory. So essentially placing a pre-sold order moves you to the front of the line ahead of the dealerships.

Is this everyone else’s understanding of how this process works?

They are only manufactured at the Georgia plant.

My understanding is that you get what you ask for, but something might be available sooner that's close.

I placed two orders because the first one wasn't right... On the first order (for AWD) I was asked to place a "deposit." That's refundable as far as I know... and when I followed up on the order several weeks later, by stopping by the dealer to see a printout, I found out the system had "FWD" instead, so I started looking around. During this time the dealer called me and said a different color combo was coming in but I did not want it. At this point the order had not been pulled so they submitted a new order. Also at this point I had a bad feeling so I shopped around and bought elsewhere. The first order was refunded. If you are "pre-paying" or some language like that, then it would not necessarily be refundable.

So if you see a Black/Black SX available soon it was probably mine :)

Absolutely not. I ordered with the dealer, 20 days later KIA accepted and provided an order #. Get back your money and go to a dealer that is not full of it.

you dealer may be better off selling you a Volkswagon since they come from over seas. Find a new dealer that knows something about what they are selling. You are just waiting to be ripped off. Good Luck

Interesting. This is exactly what a dealer told me here in San Diego. I went ahead in good faith and put $1k down. Sat down and completed and order form with receipts I made sure said fully refundable. I took "port" with a grain of salt and assumed it just meant the place they all ship into here in SoCal but freight or whatever else.

I was surprised to find this forum tonight and read all the stories of getting orders accepted by KIA and eventually receiving VINs.

I was qouted 60-90 days with no guarantees on time ("could be longer").

You have a wonderful ride headed your way. Waiting is part of the fun

I put a $1000 down a a Telly S. I built it with the sales manager the way I wanted it, got my “out the door price” (+DMV) and left. This was July 8th. I went back to the dealer last weekend saying I wanted to finalize the deal so I would know that there would be no BS in the future. I was told without a VIN I can’t finalize the sale. It made sense. So... to anyone that has placed an order
1. What kind of confirmation did you get?
2. When did you get confirmation that ur vehicle was ordered?
3. How long did it take to get a VIN#
4. Did you get anything directly from KIA or just the dealer?

Incase your wondering $37,400 was the number. Telluride S fwd, dimming rear view mirror & tow hitch were the options

A reputable dealer will at least agree on the price when you put a deposit down. There have been instances where the dealer tries to add a market adjustment after the fact so be careful. If the dealer is referring to Kia incentives, then yes, it may be true that he can't lock in some current manufacturer incentives. Many good dealers will also agree on financing terms pending a credit check - but dont do a credit app until you see the car. Use caution with placing deposits - some are refundable, some aren't.

Should there be a order receipt? What do you get as proof that the vehicle was ordered

Ask for a printout from the internal Kia system (I forgot what it's called) showing a sold order. Make sure sales manager does it while you are there. And/or, get some kind of sales agreement with numbers in writing. Eventually, your dealer will tell you it's been accepted (possibly weeks/months after order), and then near the delivery phase, a VIN.

Thank you. I’ll be going back to the dealer tomorrow and I’ll be asking for proof of the order. It’s probably fine, I’ve just been jerked around by so many dealers trying to buy this beautiful SUV. When you visit as many dealers as I did you learn real quick that they all are trying to trick/scam/lie to you in one way or another
