• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Looking at the label inside the front door side of my new Telluride S trim, I see lots of specs which I don't understand. (See screenshot below.) What does GVWR 5917 lbs" mean? It also shows "Front 2954 lbs" and "Rear 3196 lbs." What do these mean?

Thanks for all your help.

GVWR is gross vehicle weight rating. Front and rear Gross Axle Weight Ratings are also shown.

Max laden weight of the vehicle or each axle, respectively.

Thanks for the info. But what does "gross vehicle weight" actually mean? I know it doesn't mean the weight of the Telluride which is 4,112 to 4,354 lbs according to the Kia web site. Does GVWR mean that the Telluride GVWR cannot exceed its own weight (4,112 to 4,354 lbs) plus the weight of all the passengers and luggage?

GVWR stands for gross vehicle weight rating and refers to the maximum poundage your vehicle can weigh to operate safely and without harm to its components.

GVWR includes the passengers, personal effects, and cargo carried, along with the curb vehicle weight and the tongue weight of the trailer.

The total weight the chassis can support is listed as GVWR. Gross means it's combination of all weights, including the vehicle (net cargo weight would exclude the vehicle itself). So you have about 1500 lbs of weight you can safely load into the vehicle. Plus 5000 you can tow.
