• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Hello, I’ve owned a 2020 Telluride EX 2WD for about 9 months. Bought from a dealership in Texas and have moved to CA since so I can’t bring it back to them.

Check engine light illuminates, P0597 code Thermostat heater circuit. I am not a mechanic, but pretty mechanically inclined in general. Did some reading, seemed to be bad thermostat. Bought new one and on install, when draining coolant saw that it is green. Totally wrong coolant has been in there. Yesterday, I did 6-8 cycles of filling the radiator with distilled water, running the engine up to temp, watching my OBD for temps to drop, then begin to rise (indicating thermostat open and close) then shutting the engine off, letting it cool a bit, draining and refilling the radiator. I would also crack the thermostat housing to drain the block and remove the lower radiator hose to get a bit more coolant out.

Each time, I’m only draining about 1.2 gallons out of a 2.8 gal system. Now, I have 6 gallons of progressively diluted coolant, but it’s still quite noticably green. How can I really purge the coolant to get this crap out so I can refill with the correct stuff?

If there are special tools I can borrow from Auto Zone or something, please advise.
