  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Hey. I'm Jim who is married to Peg. We purchased a 2020 KIA Telluride with the goal of towing a lightweight fiberglass Escape 19 trailer. We have a 7-pin with brake controller professionally installed and now trying to get more information as to what additional devices we may need to get to safely pull our trailer. The trailer dry weight (base) is 3,250 pounds.
Its GVWR is 5,000 pounds. Looking at the VIN information plate on our KIA, the car's GVWR is rated at 5,917 pounds. Our trim package is WK (not sure what that means). I'm pretty good at math, but am not aware of the formulas necessary to calculate if safe or not. I can't locate tongue weight limit. Any information related to helping us have a positive towing experience would be appreciated.
Thanks

Lots of towing discussions here.

Safety comes up quite a bit.

Search the forum and maybe also get in touch with @2020Telly re: safe towing considerations w/ the Kia Telluride

Thanks...I've been reading ever since I registered. I hope I didn't make a mistake getting the Telluride. The main reason we got it was to tow and not be a truck. (Personal preferene)

You should be okay a couple thousand under the limit. I would find out soon if it will work for your or not. Then you can get a ton of money for the telly if it was a mistake, and go get a tahoe or something that is a more serious tow rig.
