In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. No +12v at 7-pin connector

First, my apologies if this is in the wrong forum.

I purchased a 2020 Telluride as a tow vehicle for my 4,000 pound travel trailer. The dealer installed the hitch and 7-pin connector. I discovered the pin at the 1:00 o'clock position (the red pin in the attached diagram) that should have +12v is not connected. The Prodigy RF Brake Controller I have will not work without +12v at that pin. The service advisor ordered a second harness. That harness also did not have a connection for pin 4. He is now trying to contact Kia for a solution. Has anyone else experienced this issue or know of a solution?

The 2020 came with wiring for a 4 pin connector only, it was changed to a 7 pin for 2021. I'm thinking it's not as easy install on the 2020 for a 7 pin. I'm sure others will reply.

The dealer should have done their homework before trying to put this on. The 2020 vehicle harness is missing a couple wires. You probably overpaid for that 7-pin harness and don’t want to cut into it. If I were you I would try to get a refund. A universal 7-way RV connector is what you need. (You might have a 7-way round connector)

You just need a wire run to the battery with an inline auto resetting breaker to get 12v+. But you will also need a 4-pin plug and play harness to plug into the back of the universal 7 pin and you’ll need to tap into the reverse which is pin #8 on the connector. Then you will be all set to run the Prodigy RF. Since you are using this brake controller there is no need to run a wire through the firewall into the cabin.

The story of installing a 7-way connector on a 2020 Telluride

Pinout Reference:
Trailer Wiring

You can buy the Kia 4-pin flat that was made for the 2020 to plug behind the 7-pin universal, but it’s pricier than the Curt and Tekonsha that are $34-42 and are also designed for the Telluride. The Curt is the one to go with in my opinion because it’s rated for higher amperage, 7.5A on the tail lights, than the Kia one, 5.5A on the tail lights. The lower amperage Kia one could be a problem if you have more older lighting that you need to power on what you are towing.

Any travel trailer dealer should be able to do this for you.

If you don't want to deal with the dealership that installed incorrectly for the Prodigy RF, here is one option. It's possible you have the 12V on a different pin and it just needs to be moved. You can confirm what connection you need here: https://storage.googleapis.com/curt.../Complete_Trailer_Wiring_Color_Code_Chart.pdf (Source)

If you don't need the reverse/backup connection and all you need is a 12V+ from the battery, you simply need a 10ga or 12ga wire run from the battery to an auto reset 30A circuit breaker mounted near the battery, then continue the wire along the underneath of the vehicle back to the 7-way you already have going to the correct pin.

I'm not sure where that diagram came from but since the pins are small colored rectangles, it implies that it's a 7-way RV blade, but I'm pretty sure Kia sells a 7-way round. You might actually have 12V but that's not the right pin. The images I've seen of the Prodigy RF Brake controller show a 7-way RV connection.

Lastly, if I'm completely wrong about your dealer and they actually properly configured your 7-way round with 12V+, then you might just need an adapter to go from 7-way round to 7-way blade. Most places will sell you a Hopkins 48485 adapter and that could be all you need.

Does anyone know why there is Towing Package for $795 AND a Tow Hitch w/Harness for $475 on Kia build website for 2022?
In 2021 there is only the Towing Package for $795 option. What are the differences?

Plenty of info on this in the forum if you search around. In order to tow to spec ALL YOU NEED on any trim and any transmission is the Tow Option (Hitch and Harness). The Towing Package includes the Tow Option but also adds self-leveling suspension shocks that on Tellurides sold outside of the US and the Palisade are not marketed as a towing feature. The self-leveling suspension shocks add some ride comfort when weight is over them. In some situation there could be an anti-sway benefit, but other members of this forum with the self-leveling shocks have shown there is still rear sag when towing anything of significance. So these are not really an equivalent to an air bag suspension upgrade you might find on other vehicles or purchase aftermarket.

Thank you so much for the explanation, really appreciated!

The build website showed the Hitch/Harness for the 2021 model year as (coming soon). When I ordered my 2022 Telly in mid June of this year, the paper order sheet the salesman showed me showed it was available, but the next day when they were putting the order in, he called me and told me that it was in fact NOT available yet. Because of this, I told him to just delete it from the order as I didn't want the self leveling shocks. So, it's been listed on their build website for at least 6 months, and it still isn't available to order yet.

Tow Option = hitch/harness
Tow Package = hitch/harness/self-leveling

The package (more expensive) can only come from the factory.

The option can be obtained three different ways:
- from the factory as part of order
- order the Kia parts after purchase and install as DIY or professional, results in the hitch fitting into the rear bumper same as a factory order
- purchase aftermarket hitch options that hang below the bumper

All 4 options above still get you a max 500lb tongue weight or 5,000lb max towing capacity on any trim of the Telluride.

My order in early July was for an AWD EX-P with the tow package; my dealer recently informed me was in the Kia system with a tentative delivery in mid-September. His message did not mention anything about the tow package not be being available. I'd be worried but I have seen more than a few window stickers (via failcat) for Telly's that had the tow package listed.

It wasn't the Tow Package that wasn't available when I ordered. It was the Tow Hitch/Harness combo for $495. This option, if it ever becomes available, will give you the ability to tow, but without the self leveling suspension shocks. As of now, if your Tellly comes from the factory with a tow hitch, it also will have the self leveling shocks. Two different order line options, but only one is available.

Sorry @Navin_Johnson, I misunderstood. It's interesting that the Kia website lists hitch/harness option but doesn't actually allow you to order it. At the least it ought to say something like "Coming Soon".

It did show exactly that for model year 2021. If you build a 2022, it makes you think that you can actually order it, which you can't. Ticks me off, because that is one of the reasons I waited for the 2022 orders to open up. I'll just have to install it myself like so many others on this fantastic forum have done. It isn't a problem since I did the same thing on my Sorento, and also on my Elantra Touring. The one on the Elantra Touring is hitch only since I only use it for a bike rack or a hitch hauler.
