Oil Filter Housing

We just had the oil leak on our 2020 S. Tried to get this fixed and dealership said they couldn't because the oil filter housing is on backorder and no one in the area (OH) had one. We're from TX and are visiting family up north. We were advised to just carry oil and keep checking it periodically on our trip back home after the holidays. SMH. I already have an appointment with our dealership back in TX, but am curious how that parts backorder will affect our repairs. Half tempted to order it via 3rd party (seems to be available that way) and have an independent mechanic install it, but my fear is they may repair it incorrectly. Why in the world would such a critical part of the vehicle be made of plastic? I'll post back after the holidays.
Maybe it’s the cold weather doing this! Did it leak while on Texas at all? I’m having the same problem ! Just bought a new oil housing going to install it when it gets delivered

My 2020 TELLURIDE S had this same leak. $450 later they replaced the Oil Filter Housing. I’m not sure if a mechanic cracked it or this is just common.

I'm having the same issue. Just changed the oil for the 45k service using Kia filters. I have changed the oil myself for every service using Kia filters and always used a torque wrench for the install. I figured it was a bad o-ring so yesterday I changed out the filter and used grease on it instead of oil for the seal. After reading this thread I am assuming that my leak will come back and I will have to take it to the dealer for a bad/cracked housing.

you can buy the whole housing and swap it out yourself as well...if you can find one in stock...someone may have posted the part number somewhere on this thread or in the forum

Already on order. Seems like there is a shortage of these based on what some of them are selling for on Ebay. I picked one up from carid for $95. Wanted to have one on hand or incase the dealer doesn't cover it under warranty.

Dealer let the car run for a while and noticed the small leak forming where the housing connects to the block after they cleaned everything up with brake cleaner. They ordered new gaskets for the housing to block connection and replaced them under warranty. The housing was not cracked anywhere as far as they could tell. So far no leaks, I will update if they return. Holding on to my extra housing assembly just incase because they are on a national backorder right now.

where is this weep hole located? i just did my first oil change and it appears to be a tiny leak right where the housing seats to the engine..

there is no weep hole at the engine to housing connection...if you have a leak at the housing to engine connection you may want to change the housing...the "weep hole" that people are speaking of is the pour lip where you screw the filter cap back on...if you don't wipe it good it will drip a little...nothing to be concerned with as long as it doesn't persist...in that case you may have installed the gasket wrong or not torqued it down properly

Huh. What are they talking about then? And I think im ok. I’ll check it again soon. Just seemed to be a little oil right around where the cap seats to the housing.

ah that might be it. i just kept wiping that area and there would always be a little oil on my towel. hopefully its nothing. but like others have said, its terrible that the housing is plastic as well.. its going to fail eventually IMO.. :/

i agree...bs design...almost designed to fail so the kia dealers have something easy to fix and charge you a ton for...could have just used a traditional metal filter...i have a torque wrench that i use just for this vehicle so the setting is ready to go...i have a it dialed down a little less than the spec torque so i don't crack it

yes i didnt torque it to specs either. i made a line across the cap and housing before i removed. i ended up tightening just past that.. i just dont like that design, i had it on my jeep. it doesnt tighten smoothly. its jerky even if you put oil on the o ring..

Hi Y’all… bring back a older thread.

I pretty certain I cracked the housing, I had to rtv the plastic filter cup to stop the leak. I have a new housing but was curious if anyone had torque specs on th assembly? For those who have done it, how did you access it? I’m hoping to not take off the whole plastic Inner fender.

If 35 Newton/meters is stamped on the housing, torque the housing to 25 foot/pounds.

I discovered a leak from my oil filter housing recently. A drip of oil hanging from the housing and a very oily/dirty plastic panel beneath it.
I cleaned the panel and replaced the oil filter with a new o-ring. Torqued the housing to the required 25 foot pounds. Drove approximately 100 miles. Found a drip of oil hanging from the housing again and the start of another oil puddle on the panel beneath it. Will probably have to have the dealer look at it.

Just had my oil filter housing replaced under warranty. There is a seal between the housing and engine that goes bad.
