• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Hi. I need advice —
My very new 1600 mile sxp 2021 has been in the shop for a week & half with undiagnosed oil leak. It is undiagnosed because they can’t seem to figure out what’s wrong with it.
I am in a very annoying loaner car right now and am just so frustrated with the whole situation.
I have an appt Mon for ceramic coating which is being cancelled because no one can even give me a time line or guess as to when I’ll have my car back.
I’m currently talking to someone in corporate who’s my case manager and I need to know what I should be asking for from KIA. I want to ask for a new car because I’m annoyed I spent 50k and on a NEW car and now it’s motor has been taken apart and worked on - and I’m no car expert - so what does this mean for the car? are there more issues up ahead? Do I believe what they tell me when they finally diagnose a problem and say “it’s not a big deal”
I know this won’t happen but this representative tells me to fill out the paper work requesting a new car. Idk why he’s trying to have me waste my time which is also very annoying (he can’t tell me anything about the cars status or what they will do to compensate me)
Anyone have experience with this, lemon laws, or any advice.
Thanks

Lemon law won’t help since this is the first report of this problem. It’s frustrating but all vehicles can have problems. The price you paid isn’t a factor here. I’m not sure why corporate would have you fill out paperwork for a new vehicle. You said they’ve had the engine apart; what have they removed and reinstalled?

1. Don't fill out the paperwork. Be patient.
2. Study your states lemon laws - mine requires 3 trips to the dealer or 30 days in the shop being worked on.
3. Unfortunately it doesn't sound like you can start a lemon law case. Sounds like it's been in the shop for 10 days. At this point you should just pray to God it gets to 30 days...
4. Kia will not offer you a buyback at this point since it can't be "lemon-ed" yet by law.

Hope that helps.

Yes it was very frustrating that corporate was encouraging me to do this. even though I kept saying - why would I do this, clearly this won’t be accepted. He would say “I can’t tell you what they will or will not approve” like he just wanted me to take the next step so he wouldn’t be bothered anymore.
I honestly do not know what they are doing with the car or what they have done because no one really is keeping me in the loop. I will need someone to give me something in writing because the car terms are so foreign that every time they explain something, I’m lost. But I know that they had a theory that it was lubricant from bolts - and they were wrong about that so they said they would need to remove the transmission next.

Yes this was very helpful! Thanks! I won’t fill out the paperwork.
I’ll pray for the 30 days.
Or just pray my car comes back still smelling like new leather and they compensate me somehow and it really is a small issue!!

Oh yeah I should have counterbalanced my statement.

Of course I want this to be a small issue that gets an easy fix. If it doesn't and you feel something wrong just got back in.

It's not that hard going back 3x for them to check something out that's bothering you. It doesn't have to be for the same thing!

Get them to give you a very detailed service record. You know that thing any mechanic gives you at the end after you pay.

Have the SM detail every thing they did to your vehicle. How they diagnosed the issue. The fix, etc.

That service record will be the only legal paperwork you will be left with at the time you pick up your ride.

in my opinion - Kia is a 🤬 corporation. I have already filed a lawsuit and they remain silent. By car: how did you notice the leak? describe in more detail pliz.

My husband noticed drips in the garage and put some cat litter down. This continued the next day. Every day when I left my spot- there would be new wet marks. Kia service said it was probably my ac (which has never been turned on). They took it in and confirmed it was oil.

I will call tomorrow and ask for what they’ve done so far in writing!

Have you and / or your husband PERSONALLY checked the oil level? Are you sure the level didn't go down to 1/3? If yes, then you don't have to worry too much, if not or you don't know - you will most likely expect a problem, since look for very capricious and fuel-efficient engines. Piston seizure is a long-standing problem for Koreans.

Piston seizures are not more common in one country vs. another.
