• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... I am taking my Telluride in tomorrow to fix the oil leak that has been there since the last oil change. they did not replace the crush washer and it has resulted in a permanent leak and now must replace the oil pan to correct the problem- BEWARE- check for leaks after oil changes , people can screw up the simplest of jobs !!!!

What was damaged ? Did they crack the oil pan by over tightening the drain bolt?

Worthless without pictures.

Basically the answer to that is Yes, good news is there is not an oil pan per say, its just a cover over the bottom of the block - simple repair but a real mechanic should be the one to fix it because it requires sequencing the pan cover and torquing properly- you should have seen the old crush washer - it was oval because they just kept tightening it. Also the torque spec for the plug itself is only 28 foot pounds -its been a real hassle with about 4 visits to hopefully get it fixed tomorrow . Just make sure you use factory oil filter and o rings and ALWAYS put new crush washer on with each oil change and only torque to 28 foot pounds!!!

Just did my first oil change and installed a Fumoto swivel drain plug. Never have to take the skid plate off and I never have to worry about a crush washer.

Highly recommend to those doing their own oil changes.

thanks - i will check it out

Plenty of folks on here have had miserable oil change stories. It doesn't require many tools - just DIY. YouTube is your best friend!

If the oil pan is to be replaced, the washer has nothing to do with it.
The problem is the dealer's crooked hands.
Most likely, tex, changing the oil, tightened the bolt with a pneumatic pistol, but yes there are such idiots.

The swivel drain plug sounds like a great idea! Do you remember what the P\N was for that? Any signs of leaks from it? I would like to do the same.

Fumoto valve FTW!

...so how do you remove your Oil filter without removing the skid plate?

I saw a YouTube video installing an F106SX on a Pallisade and they ended up cutting the cover/skidplate to make it fit. Did you need to make any modifications to make it fit?

I did not install a F106SX- just took the Telluride to real mechanics that know how to follow instructions- its very simple- just torque the plug to the specs and ALWAYS use a new crush washer with every oil change- In fact Kia gives you a new washer that comes with the filter when you buy it !- DOO!
Have not had a problem since I made the dealership replace my oil Pan and took it somewhere else for maintenance- you do not have to go to the dealer - Just keep exact records and invoices that pprove you bought the filter from a Kia dealership

Also- I do not service at 7,500 miles intervals - that is stupid!!!!- I change my oil at maximum 5,000 miles -

I know this from being a service director at dealerships for 35 years- I am happily retired!!
