• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Million Mile Warranty | Barnett Auto

Is this even credible ? Has anyone heard of something like this ? They sell Kia too.
When I bought my previous vehicle there were a handful of dealers offering a Limited Lifetime Warranty, which in the fine print meant they would cover the Powertrain for as long as you own the vehicle as long as you follow the manufacturer’s recommendations exactly and have all the paperwork to prove it or you just go to their service dept for everything following the manufacturer’s recommendations exactly.

A Subaru dealer near us does this. Great marketing. Most people don't keep the vehicle long enough for this to be used and those that do, don't have a problem. So the dealer only pays for a few for great marketing.

I believe that their hope is they will also do the majority if not all of the service work to assure that it is properly documented. If they gain all of the maintenance work, it will easily cover the cost of the extended warranty they are purchasing. In addition, they will most likely get the warranty work and be paid through the underwriting company. Just in that alone, they may make up their cost.

Our local dealer has this as an add on to all vehicles at a cost of $3900 I believe. It's an option, but they are just providing their own aftermarket warranty. When we bought my husband's car, the (different) dealer offered a warranty plan in finance closing that was *the same as the cost of the car*, for a limited bumper to bumper. I didn't bother to ask what could possibly be limited in a bumper to bumper plan. I just pointed out for that cost we could just buy another newer car.

Do dealers expect the costumers to be that dumb... Funny ...

I think they do. My parents recently purchased a new vehicle, making all sort of bad decisions in the process, including purchasing extra insurance and warranty through the dealer for an extra $7000. They paid MSRP for a Pilot Touring AWD 8 passenger for the two of them. My dad is retired and rarely leaves the house. He's a very large many and can't get around comfortably. They bought this as it was the only vehicle he felt he could fit into, nevermind the fact that they have a Suburban that they just put a lift on for his electric scooter. Nevermind that my mom had a car, I think a Santa Fe possibly, in perfect condition that wasn't yet paid off. My mom works from home 3 or 4 days a week out of 5. They don't travel anywhere, don't drive a carpool and don't like to drive if there is someone else willing to drive. I think they are the exact type of customer dealers pull that crap on and that's why they keep doing it, someone sometime is going to fall for it. Sorry just venting. I'm not even considering a Pilot so I don't encourage them in the thought that they made a good choice. Made me physically ill just hearing about it.

It's nothing more than pure dealer profit. This is similar to betting against a casino. The house always wins because they know the micro details of risk. The underwriters of these warranties are in the same position. Dealers are raising the table minimums (MSRP) because they have people qued up waiting to buy. The dealer cost (premium) is super low..think 50.00 per vehicle. The risk that someone would actually make a claim after the manufacturer's warranty expires is extremely low. The odds that the majority of owners will keep this vehicle beyond it's 10 yr 100K warranty are very very low. They wouldn't be offering it if the odds weren't in their favor. It's a simple as that. As I told my dealer, this vehicle will be a pile of rust on my garage floor or chopped into beer cans long before that extended warranty kicks in. Just say no or move on to another dealer. Use those 10 years to save for one helluva "beyond warranty fix-it or new car fund" Just say no or move on to another dealer who's not playing this game. Enjoy the ride.

Isn’t the 10/100k what attracts us to KIA. If I wanted to purchase something extended I would do it for BMW or some of those that cost arm and a leg to fix!

The wear and tear will stop your car before mechanical break down. The crank shaft will go around only so many times before it wears out. Well before wear and tear, electrical gremlins will stop your car.
