Order Status

Question on the buying process. I put an order in for a 2021 SX on 11/4 at Nutley Kia. Was told my car would be on the next batch of orders sent to the manufacturer. At the time I was given an approximate 4 month delivery estimate since I didn’t get any add-ons. Called several times since then and still don’t have a clear answer on where my order stands? They’re telling me the order has not been picked up by KIA yet. Is this normal?

It’s been a little over a month relax you will get your car. Once the dealership gets a vin they will be able to give you a better eta.

The short answer is yes, this is normal. What the dealer is saying is that your particular order has not been accepted by Kia yet.....or 'picked up' within their ordering system (KFOS = Kia Forward Ordering System). Nutley is known to be a good dealer so you should not have any concern. But you can and should ask more questions and have them help you understand if you feel in the dark. You are spending 40-50k....they can spend a few minutes to make sure you are comfortable with the process.

Below are a few links to threads that will help you understand the ordering, ETA and delivery process. Use the search function at the top right of the page as well to locate additional threads or info.

The highlights would be (credit to @Lith_SXPN for some highlights as pulled from one of the links below....easier than retyping ;-) ):
1. Place your order with the dealer.....dealer puts the order in to their system (KDealer/WebDCS or KFOS)
2. Around every mid-month, Kia will let each dealer know what their allotment of Tellurides will be for the current ordering period (For example, 5 SX, 3 EX, 4 S, 6 LX)
3. When KFOS opens up (again, mid-month generally), Kia will start picking up the orders from the system on a FIFO basis. If an order is picked up it gets an initial ETA for delivery and the dealer can communicate that to you. Keep in mind the ETA are "E"stimated and can/will move around a little bit. You are likely 2-3 months out from delivery at this point.
4. Once your car is built a VIN is issued. This happens roughly 4-6 weeks ahead of delivery.

Could plant close again? 😖
