If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Out of state Titles and License Plates?

Good evening,

I am looking to purchase a Telluride later this year and wondered how Titles and Plates work out of state. I live in Louisiana and the cost of License Plates is super expensive when you purchase a car. When you buy it out of state does the dealership take care of all of that or do you have to transfer it and purchase plates when you arrive back in state?

I am having a hard time finding anyone wanting to do a custom order for me in SE Louisiana and it looks like I am going to have to buy out of state.
I'm from Washington state, but I purchased my 2021 Telluride S trim in Kansas City, MO in June of 2021. May wife and I were in Missouri for several months. After I bought it, I had it licensed in Missouri and paid sales tax at the local office there. Got my MO plates at that time as well. Then in August we returned to Washington. A week or two later, I went down to the DMV in Spokane and got it registered in Washington. Didn't have to pay sales tax because it was paid in Missouri. Both states have the same rate (about 9.1%). Only had to pay for the plates and registration in Washington, about $189. Got my plates at the time I paid the registration. It all went well. The title was transferred to Washington, but since I still owe money on the Telluride, the state keeps it until the loan is paid off. That's pretty normal I think.
