Test drove an SXP today with a black headliner. Family pointed out that the headliner might be difficult to maintain/keep clean. Seems like you would have to keep brushing it to keep the pile straight. Any owners out there have issues with the pile fingerprints or dirt on the headliner?

No. Love it. If you don't like the look, and think it will need to be brushed, then don't get it. Just get regular SX. I gave up caring about "fingerprints" or "finger drawings". I certainly wouldn't call it an issue. It functions as designed, and adds a very upscale feel like Alcantara. Audi, BMW, Tesla feel. For 1/2 the price. Check out pics of Alcantara headliners on Google and you'll see that they all look this way.

Its not that I dislike it. We are getting a prestige because we want a heated steering wheel and have kids and the seat heaters/coolers would help. We were just curious from owners who have had it awhile how it looks over time and whether it requires a fair amount of maintenance or not.

Any EX or SX equipped with AWD has a heated steering wheel.

I have a Telluride SX-Prestige with the black interior (light headliner) and a Palisade Limited with the black interior (black headliner). One I’ve had for a year, the other for nearly a year. Both headliners still look great and feel great. It’s just one of the many things that enhances the premium feel of these vehicles.

I know my OCD will kick in when I get my Telluride with this headliner, not stopping me though

For me the luxurious headliner is a bonus...it is all the other features that put the SX over the top compared to the competition. My wife especially likes to work on her Macbook Pro on long trips and the 110V Power Inverter was a must for her. For me it was the Nappa Leather Seats and HUD...once you have a HUD - you never want to do without it. Kids are excited about the heated/cooled second row seats. It is the total package. Honestly - I rarely think about the headliner in any of our cars - but I always notice a luxury car that has a premium headliner...because it is different than what most cars have.

Have a four year old. Tell him not to touch it and don’t let him have things that can stain anything in the car. No issues.
bigger issue is people who want to see the car feeling the need to stroke my headliner...
This is exactly what started the conversation as both kids were messing with it and making designs. It got my wife and I thinking -- not that we are reconsidering since we already ordered but rather were curious whether people messing with it out of curiosity made for more maintenance.
No additional maintenance- just accept it will have some spots that are up vs, flat. Trust me, you will see where they were holding the headliner during installation at the factory

You will be too busy playing with all the other interior features and functions the headliner will be a distant memory when you get into the car. Yes it’s nice to touch, but you hardly look up when you go for a drive. Kids will eventually get bored of touching the liner. If they do not, make them clean their mess as punishment to understand they shoudln’t be getting it dirty in the first place.

Don't even notice the headliner...
Its vey easy to clean.
If you like the various look of suede, you'll like the premium headliner.
I feel the typical fabric headliner shows every bit of dirt from hands, etc, while this hides those things better.

The headliner for my 2012 Audi A6 Prestige was comparable to fabric found on a backpack. Lol. So I’d also consider this to be a superior fabric.
