Other than getting in and just hitting the start button, what is the issue?
Pretty sure stepping on the brake is the takeover procedure after remote starting with your fob or Kia Access.
For parents with infants or toddlers, usually loading the kids into the back seat is priority. Especially when it is cold outside. There is a proximity sensor that will automatically takeover remote start when the remote fob is sensed nearby after one of the doors are open. Unless you have your keys in your pant pocket and are standing very close to the interior of the car though it has a very low chance of being detected, and the car will automatically shut off even though the 10 minute remote start timer has not elapsed.
One method I have done to avoid having the car shut off is to stay leaned into the back seat with the fob in my front pant pocket and watch for the auto takeover to occur before backing away.
Another method is while you are holding your car seat carrier or toddler, open the drivers door first partially sit and step on the brake pedal for takeover, then proceed with loading your kid.
Both these options avoid having to take the keys out of your pocket. If you leep your keys in a backpack or purse, and don’t want to toss the bag into the front seat, at least take it off your shoulder or back and leave it in the footwell of the backseat while you are loading your kid. Otherwise, the proximity sensor probably will have a harder time picking up a signal. and result in prematurely turning off the engine.
Lastly, if anybody is interested in the Accessorides remote starter (
with takeover) for 2020 models, as long as you keep the back door (or any door) open, you can let the 15 minute starter timer elapse without any premature shutoff. (non-takeover version shuts off engine as soon as you open any door) Once you close a door though, you have 45 seconds to step on the brake pedal. The car will remain running even after 45 seconds if 15 minutes hasn’t elapsed, but once you open the door again to get in, it will shut off. Also opening a door shortly after closing another will continue to keep the car running. I think all doors need to be closed for about 10 seconds before the 45 second countdown begins. Plenty of time to get to the drivers door after I load my kids. If I load my kids and then start doing other errands though that takes a minute or longer (ie. water the lawn), it will shut off when I try to get in the car after. So overall, slightly advantageous to Kia remote starter for loading kids.
