• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Hello, I am trying to understand the differences between these features on Kia Sorento. On top of these there is also Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Lane Following Assis (LFA). I am super confused at this point

This guy does a pretty good job explaining some of those features. Check out this video starting from the 13:30 mark. Hope this helps.

Edit: Here is a more in depth video

LKA - when traveling at speeds above 40mph the steering wheel will nudge you back into your lane if you drift over the lane marker. It will even steer for you as you ride along the lane marker. Visible lane markers required for this to function. Too sharp of a turn radius will deactivate LKA.

LFA - will keep you centered in your lane while SCC is activated. Visible lane markers required for this to function. Can and will deactivate at any moment when required conditions are not met, most reliable on straight roads. Will continue to steer for you on bends, but will deactivate when turn radius is too sharp.

SCC - Cruise control, but the radar and cameras work to keep a set distance from the leading car ahead and will brake when necessary. Stop and go makes it possible to use in traffic/rush hour conditions and come to complete stops. If not traveling on HDA approved roadways (based on preloaded navigation maps in UVO) from complete stop will need to step on gas pedal or press resume SCC on steering wheel to accelerate again.

HDA - Technically a combination of SCC and LFA. What makes it unique from just using SCC is that no intervention is needed to resume accelerating from a complete stop on HDA approved roadways. Because it uses info from preloaded maps, can also auto adjust set speed to posted speed limits. Just need to set speed to current speed limit to see the AUTO icon. Lastly, from personal driving experience, driving with SCC on HDA roads allows you to keep your hands off the steering wheel for much longer than with SCC alone before the warning starts to chime. (ie. watching the road, but with hands resting on the armrests.)

Just remember the car is not autonomous, so don’t assume you can turn on SCC and left it drive itself without paying attention to the road. Watch out particularly for the off ramps if traveling in the exit lanes. Don’t use SCC in city traffic.

With the newer 2022 Telluride (and other newer Kia models) there is also a SCC-C the later C is for curve. Where SCC will slow down when approaching a curve in the road, and then speed up again when exiting the curve. Not sure of this added functionality will also increase the tolerance for how sharp a curve/bend can be before LFA/LKA gives out.

It will not stop for red lights, stop signs, crosswalks. It will not steer in sharp corners, where you are more likely to not be paying attention and hit pedestrians on sidewalks. It will try to speed up with no leading cars in front to reach set speed, more likely to hit people crossing the street or cars pulling out of side streets. The list goes on.

You could give it a try, but more than likely you will find yourself constantly having to intervene and manually take over. Defeating the purpose.

Doesn't other features kick in to avoid hitting pedestrians or cyclists... Pedestrian Detection (FCA-Ped), Cyclist Detection and Junction Turning.

Pedestrian and cyclist detection are emergency braking features. They do not replace normal driving behavior. If you see somebody half way into a crosswalk you slow down from a far to a complete stop until they pass. You wouldn’t drive up until you are about 20 feet away and slam on your brakes.

Not sure what you mean by junction turning. LKA and LFA are not capable of making sharp turns. You will find that any sharp curves or bends in the road, those systems will cancel out and you are suddenly in complete control mid turn. There will be no warnings that the auto steering is off aside from the dash icons changing from green to white. This can even happen on straight roads, the system is always monitoring if all required operating conditions are not met.

HDA2 is on it's way to some Genesis models, I'm sure it will make its way to Kia and Genesis in short order. Smarter AI, including lane changes when you initiate the blinker.

I just started a couple of days ago using it in traffic on my way to work! It has been a charm for me.. this could really spoil me! After watching many videos i wasnt sure what to expect, until I actually got mines! I have been learning what it will and wont do...which still makes my commute to work much better..less stress with the stop and go traffic...
i also use it on my way home from work because i use the expressway on my way home. The different settings help me figure out what is perfect for me! Many people dont understand the this is just an assist! to me it does just that! And sometimes more
