  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Hey Telluride Forum,

This site has been invaluable so figured I might detail out our experiences in case it helps anyone out....

Outcome:
2021 Telluride SX AWD
Tow Package
Prestige
Nightfall
Glacial Pearl exterior w/ Grey Leather interior
Paid MSRP: $50,470
Dealership: My Kia Salinas

Background:
Test drove Pilot, Highlander, Atlas, Ascent, Telluride
  • Here in Sacramento I saw prices ranging from 5K over MSRP all the way to ridiculous 10-15K over with many places adding erroneous tints, dent protections etc. to justify the markup.
  • My Kia and Hilltop Kia were the only ones offering MSRP in the region.
  • Looked in Oregon, Nevada, Utah and SoCal for options, called 30+ dealers over the summer
Timeline:
  1. (9/30/20) Placed order with $500 refundable deposit at Folsom Lake Kia in Sacramento with a 5K markup for an SX AWD, Non-Prestige with tow package, White/Grey, Nightfall and other random accessories. Said to expect in January.
    1. (10/27/20) Dealership asked for my personal info, presumable to put into KFOS.
    2. (11/2/20) Notified that my vehicle was due 12/24/20
    3. (11/19/20) Turns out this was the EX version, not SX that we wanted and would be another couple months before correct one arrived.
  2. (9/30/20) Placed order with $1,000 refundable deposit at Hilltop Kia with @Moe for MSRP, he said to expect April/May delivery.
    1. Followed up several times and ETA remained consistent.
  3. (9/28) Found one more dealership on this forum, My Kia in Salinas that was offering MSRP. They were not taking orders, but I shared our requirements with them. They said they had something that met our ask coming in December. I followed up with them every 2 weeks.
  4. (10/30/20) I saw what I thought was the referenced vehicle show up on failcat.
  5. (11/3/20) My Kia in Salinas provided window sticker (same as above) and we put a 500 refundable deposit on the vehicle. They mentioned ETA of 12/18/20. It had Prestige which we didn't originally want/need but considering everything we went with it since it was at MSRP.
  6. (11/20/20) My Kia in Salinas called and told me it had just arrived.
  7. (11/23/20) Purchased vehicle. In and out of the dealership within 90 mins. Did not opt for an extended warranty at this time, but they did double the powertrain warranty to 10 year 200K for "free"
We're incredibly happy with the vehicle so far, and after a week of driving have nothing but rave reviews. Next steps will be Weathertech mats and Thule cross bars.

Good luck everyone!

Sam
