Wow!!!! I picked up my Telluride yesterday and I've never been in love with a vehicle as much as I am with this!!!! I've driven about 475 miles over the last two days - picking it up in West Virginia and bringing it back to Long Island, NY. Took the scenic route through Baltimore Inner Harbor and made a weekend of it. Okay - with that said - here are my initial impressions and concerns allayed:
Keep in mind this is a SX-Prestige X-Line - Everlasting Silver and Terracotta.
Keep in mind this is a SX-Prestige X-Line - Everlasting Silver and Terracotta.
- Terracotta looked pretty orange in the photos my dealer provided me as well as most everything I've seen. Not the case! My wife thinks it looks more like caramel colored. In any case - it's gorgeous!!! You have to see it in person - the camera definitely gives it an orange tinge. I'm so, so happy with it.
- First time I've had a heads up display - now can never go back!!!! It's fabulous! As others have reported you can't change the color of the speed. It's white. Honestly - would have never known anything different if it wasn't brought up in another thread. My dealer said that Kia changed the vendor that handles the software of the infotainment system in 2023 models. That's likely why the color option isn't there. Perhaps it was an oversight in the first release???
- Related to the HUD, but also the dashboard, the cruise control, lane centering, lane switching is all right there. If you ever side swipe another vehicle while driving this car - you had your eyes closed! There are so many indicators about approaching vehicles and it's handled so nicely! You don't even need the cool blind spot cameras when changing lanes.
- The safety and automation on this vehicle is incredible. It almost drives itself. It did a fantastic job on lane centering and changing lanes. Just hit the turn signal a little to start the blinker - the Telly changes lanes and when it's done turns your blinker off. I was extremely impressed with the automation and from my experience worked just about flawlessly.
- Heat at idle worked perfectly. I know many people have had an issue, knock on wood I haven't yet. I keep the Telly in Auto mode for climate and on low for the fan speed (1 LED). Outside temperature for most of the trip was about 35 degrees. Let's see if it still works when it's colder.
- Door unlocking and locking via the outside handle worked perfectly - just as good as my previous Jeep Grand Cherokees. There are a lot of complaints that the doors won't open when touching it on the inside of the door handle without playing around with it. Never had an issue. If you are - there is a defect.
- Some people have experienced when they start the car, the infotainment defaults to the home screen. Mine has been defaulting to where it left off. I only have one profile set as of now and that profile is set to my Kia Connect account. However whether using my digital key or key fob or remote start - it's been great.
- Digital Key is AWESOME!!! No more carrying the key fob to the gym! By the way - it's a large key fob - too big! Digital Key was a little confusing to setup (must go to setup in vehicle and hit save to initiate it). However once I got it - and found the right spot on the phone - it was instant. I know people have complained that it takes a while to work. With my iPhone - I just tapped the back (towards the top of the phone) to the middle of the drivers handle and the Telly unlocks (same to lock when exiting). Then place the phone on the charging pad and boom - start the car! All instant.
- Windshield Wiper fluid definitely only hit a little less than half way up the windshield at 65-70 MPH as other people have noted. It was fine when going slower speeds.
- The camera that reads stop signs, school zones, yield signs and the like is very cool! Red light camera warnings with how many feet to the red light camera displayed on the HUD is great! The Telly also warned me of a highway speed camera that Waze didn't!
- No complaints about the microphone causing loud bangs to the other party. Now I only tested mine connected to Carplay and not Bluetooth - so not sure if that matters - but everyone said the connection was nice and clear.
- I was concerned that I needed to turn off my automatic folding side view mirrors because I need to manually close them to go into my garage. Kia handled that situation perfectly. I keep them on automatic so have the convenience around town, etc. As I approach my garage, I manually fold them. They then stay folded until I manually unfold them. Then they return to automatic! So when I leave my garage I don't have to remember to fold them closed because they don't automatically unfold!!! Perfect!
- Many people were complaining of a lag when using Carplay with Waze. I had no lag (iPhone 14 Pro 128MB). I went about 300 of my 475 miles with Carplay in full screen until I figured out how to split screen it so I can see SiriusXM on the right side.
