• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Hello,

I have a 2023 Telluride and there is a rattling noise coming from the rear tailgate. I brought it in for service and ws told the tailgate heeds too be adjusted and I would have to bring it to a body shop. I broughtbthe vehicle to the bodyshop and they told me that it looks like the tailgate piston needs to be replaced. Has any one else had this issue? If so was was the fix? ThankYou.

Since it is free to try, I would remove the rear license plate and see if the noise goes away. Since it is still under warranty the dealership should fix the problem.

Do you have the auto or manual tailgate?

We have the auto tailgate. We took off the license plate and everything in the car. I am bringing the car in tomorrow for them to replace the tailgate piston. I don't believe that is going to fix the problem but we shall see.

I have a ‘22 Telluride with the same issue. The temp fix for me was to put duct tape on the metal tailgate latch. That way when it clamped down, there wasn’t any room for it to rattle. This worked for about a year, but eventually the tape wore down and it started making noise again. I’ve tried re-taping it, but I’m this no-man’s land of not enough tape to stop the rattle, and too much tape so the liftgate won’t close. I can’t find the happy medium. I would take it to the dealership, but both of the dealerships in the Tulsa area are a joke. Hope you can get yours fixed!

Same issue
A collision repair shop removed the tailgate cover to expose the inside. The clips that hold a wire harness came loose and the harness would flap around. Replaced the clips and the rattling noise is gone
