This week I traded in my 2020 SX-P AWD w/ Tow Package for a 2021 Wolf Grey Night Fall SX-P with Tow package. I had 48,601 miles on my ride. My dealer gave me $47,500 trade in value. Put no money down and walked out with a new ride and about $40 less per month on my finance. I really liked my 2020 dark moss with dune interior but the offer was too good to turn down. On a whim I called my dealer a couple weeks ago and asked, “what if”, and that’s what I got! The Tellurides hold their value!

I'm assuming there's an extra year on the loan. What we're missing from this story is total cost of the new car (doubtful it was MSRP if it's sitting on the lot). But it must be nice to trade up to a newer telly

No it was not but this was the same dealer where I bought my 2020. I called early May. He said he had a wolf grey scheduled for delivery May 22 (it came early). We talked the next day and I gave them a $1000 deposit to seal the deal.

Missing from the story, I was 17 months into a 48 month finance. That reset to 48 months. Yes, I paid a bit over MSRP. My thoughts, I had a tire replacement coming up later this year- $800 and I derferred a $100 oil change for another 7500 miles. So the $900 compensated for the MSRP adjustment. My monthly finance charge was $750/month at .9% on my 2020 and is now $715/month (same 4 yrs) at 1.5%. All a no brainer to me

Seems a lot to go through for a color change, remote on the fob and some extra towing connections but who am I to pass judgement. I'm hoping the 22 or 23 will have an interior of better materials, more power, better handling. That will get me to do the same.

A lot to go through? make a phone call, drop off the car, sign some docs and drive off with a new one with a reset to zero? It wasn’t about the color change it was about the value of the trade and taking advantage. Frankly, I wish it was the same dark moss with dune interior, I really liked that but was willing to give it up to start anew.

Agreed, the mileage reset would make that an easy choice.

No judgement here, makes sense to upgrade while you can, and get top dollar for the trade. Having almost 50k miles on your original 'ride would make me look for a new car already anyway (I got 50k on my BMW and I'm ready to trade in!)

Then, there is the underlying curiosity. How long do you suppose it takes for the dealer to re-cert, clean up and resell the old one? This day and age, can the dealer actually make a higher % profit on the resale of the same car, on the second go-round?

I think a lot of dealers are just sending cars to auctions. Fast and easy $$

For the most part I agree, but a late-model Kia at a Kia dealer, I think they'll sell it themselves, especially with the shortage of new ones on the lot. They make more money on the used ones for sure.
