Affordable reliability is what I expect from KIA, and I think that's exactly what you get with this drivetrain package. The Explorer ST is a bad dude, but I specifically did not want a turbo due to concerns about long term maintenance and reliability. Wouldn't be bad for KIA to offer a turbo motor as an option though. I wouldn't have picked it though.

Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. My local police dept. recently handed me official documentation indicating - from their perspective - my Telluride is plenty fast. Unfortunately, they asked me to pay for their "speed testing" services. (kidding aside...I truly appreciate what law enforcement does everyday)
As for ludicrously fast SUV's, this thing gets the job done rather nicely:

It would've been nice to have 300hp instead of 291hp....why did they stop? I like saying 300hp.

Having now owned the vehicle for 3+ months, my opinion is the same.
It feels fairly sprightly when it's empty and I'm the only one in it. But once you put some luggage and a couple of people in it, it definitely feels sluggish. And as a 3 row family hauler, it's expected to often have more than just the driver in it.
Again, for the size of the engine and the less-than-stellar MPG rating, it should've pushed out 20-30 more HP.

Why didn’t Kia use the 3.5 engine from the Carnival which produces the same hp/torque to save the weight. Highlander and Pilot both have v6 3.5 with similar power output. Just curious, i am happy with the Telly’s power just wonder why use a bigger engine and tune it down. Doesn’t sound efficient especially GDI engines suppose to produce more power for their size without compromising fuel consumption.
3.8 sounds better than 3.5... marketing folks, ya know...
