I know this will open a can of worms. Our current Ford lease is up in March. Trying to time our Telluride order up with that as close as possible. I know it varies a ton on this forum, but what’s your best guess of when I should order our Telly to match or close to the end of my current lease?

I hope someone in the know answers this as I have the same question. I’m saving for a down payment and should be ready to take delivery late February.

Im pretty sure a lot depends on the dealer and their allocation status? I have a dealer only 30 mi from me selling at MSRP but every time I bring up ordering I’m told “we‘ll have more coming in and you’ll get first crack”. Problem is I have definite desires in trim etc. and my dealer is a “low allocation“ dealer so I could be waiting for an eternity in that scenario.

Like you, once March gets here I’ll be ready to pull the trigger.

I think this may require calling around to various dealerships to try to get the timing right. And monitoring Failcat. Possibly be willing to travel aways to pickup, or pay for delivery.

I can’t give you an exact timeline, but you can look at my signature which gives you an estimate on time of order till delivery. But, let me qualify this. Each dealer has different allocations to order each month. High volume dealers get more allocations then low volume dealers. Orders are usually accepted mid month. The other key factor to consider is how many people are ahead of you in the queue that are waiting to get their orders placed. (For example, Dealer A may get 3 allocations a month to order, but have 9 people waiting to order. Hence, you will not be able to order until 4 months. From there it would be about a 90 day turnaround. Dealer B may get 2 allocations a month and they may have 10 people who are waiting to get orders accepted. Hence, a 5 month wait just to order). The key questions to ask your dealer is how many allocations do they get per month to order and how many people are waiting to place their order. Another factor to consider is getting lucky and finding a Telly to your specs that has been allocated to a dealer without a buyer. There are multiple threads on these forums that explain this in detail. BTW, the wait is definitely worth it. It’s is an amazing SUV. Hope this helps you both in deciding how to proceed. Good luck!

Yeah it's a crapshoot. I switched my order to NF 7 days after you ordered, and I'm not even KFOS yet for the most active Telluride dealer in NC.

Thanks @Frankie Knuckles the process is a little more clear to me now. I have been on here daily for a couple of months and I think I’m getting a handle on it. I’m lucky in that I really have no deadline, although I’m sure by March my patience will begin to wear thin.

Reviewing my preferred dealers pages in Failcat it appears they only get maybe 5 Tellys each month. And they put them on their website even if they’re already promised. I guess they do that in case the buyer renegs. I have no idea how many of those 5 are pre-sold. I assume some are, and others are up for grabs.

My plan is to save my pennies a few months longer and move up from my original plan to get an S and instead get an EX+P. I want a specific color combo as well so I’m gonna need my dealer to accommodate my wishes or I’ll look elsewhere. When I’m close, hopefully by early January, I’ll use your advice and get the ball rolling.

Thanks again!

Great. Wish you all the best. Taking the step up to the SX is worth it, imo. Amazing features.

I'd say Frankie is a bit of an outlier with the speed at which his car got picked up by Kia. Most won't be ordered and allocated in the same month although with a non SX trim I suppose it's possible. He explained it well. Hopefully you can find a dealer with an open allocation. Any dealers on the board know how quick non SX orders are getting filled?

I may have not been clear, but my order went through KFOS on July 23rd. Vin appeared on FailCat on September 25th. I took delivery on October 15th.

Sorry I had responded but then deleted my post. I apologize for the misunderstanding. I didn’t mean for you to delete your post. I can see why you thought that.

I’m in the same boat too. My lease is up on my Toyota Sienna in April and I was told it would take 6 months for one to come in, so I ordered my Telluride on 10/10/20. I guess I will have to wait and see when I’ll get it. The time frame varies so much. I’ve seen some come within a month and some taking up to 10-12 months. I guess you really just don’t know. I just hope I get mine before my lease is up!

You can see my timeline in my Signature.

As Kia are now catching up on backlog and some dealers are able to enter you into KFOS the same month you order, average wait time going forward will be about 3months.

It’s critical to know your dealers backlog and when you’d be entered into KFOS. If they have a backlog you need to add to that time.

Yesterday.
