• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Hey guys, we got our Black/Black SXP in and are trying to decide what tint to go with. I love the car, so anyone who is waiting don't fret...the wait is well worth it. Anyways, I'm considering going with a 3M Crystalline maybe 50% on the windshield then 15% all the way around... Has anyone done something similar? Will tinting the windshield affect any of the sensors or the HUD?
TIA

sensors do not darken with film, cut holes.

You do you, but just FYI tinting the windshield is illegal if you go below the AS1 line or 5 inches from the top of the windshield :)

That being said, darker is better on the sides :)

Think every state is different. Here in GA, passenger cars are 32% front side, rear side and back while SUVs are 34% front side with back side/rear having no limit.

Correct! Varies from State to State.

For Texas, front windows must allow more than 25% of light in. Back windows, any darkness can be used.

Yeah, they are illegal...I'm not doing the windshield for darkness, more for the heat/UV protection. I'm not super concerned about it because the tint laws here in MS are not really enforced. A buddy of mine is in the PD and has 5% all the way around with 30% on the windshield. Is it illegal, yes. But most of the time as long as you are not attracting attention they leave you alone. If we do get tagged, it's worth it to me for the comfort.

I did 15% all around 3M ceramic, not sure which series, but happy with results.

We live in Arizona and had the windshield tinted with the minimum tint but with the maximum heat reflection. Made a huge difference and the shade of tint is hardly noticeable, even in the dark.

I'm planning on tinting my windshield as well. I live in TX and the sun hitting you directly can get very intense.

Has anyone just gotten the top 5 or 6" tinted to match the front windshield's 'AS1' line which is legal in most states? Aka a front drop or front sun visor line? Wonder if it looks any good

I definitely would not do 50% on the windshield. It's likely to get you attention from the police by making the rest of your tint look even darker (thanks to reduced light coming into the vehicle), and is also going to dramatically reduce your visibility at night time. Both of my vehicles are 80%, and I wouldn't dare go darker than 70%. Even 80% can sometimes make it harder to see at night, though the reduction in glare is a worthwhile tradeoff.
