If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... I'm in the market to buy an AWD EX. I want the towing package but can't seem to find one in my preferred color combination(s) that has one. Can I trust a Kia dealer to properly install the OEM hitch if I buy on without the towing package, or should I hold out for one with the factory installed package. I want the hitch for hauling bikes or a couple of hundred pounds at most. Thanks for your advice!

If you just want bikes and a few hundred pounds, you could just get a trailer hitch. A dealer or aftermarket option can certainly install a hitch. You can also order just the hitch from the factory or the towing package. But, see posts and threads below to understand what comes with the towing package.

Thanks. I'm clear on the options and was more interested in general thoughts on any dealer's ability to do the installation correctly and without damaging the integrity of the underbody and exhaust components in doing so. That is, would you trust them to do a good job?

Thanks again, and thanks for the links.

Every time I have wanted a vehicle with the tow package the dealership has tried to tell me they can install it in-house the same as from the factory, neglecting to mention all the other things that come from a factory install. I would not get one aftermarket. You may only want to use it for bikes or a few hundred pounds now but if you ever change your mind or want to sell it you might wish you had gotten the factory to do it. (also have to find out if dealership instal comes with a good warranty)

Its really simple (DYI if you are so inclined) you don't need the dealer and there is almost no way to do any damage. For bikes and such just go with Curt or I highly recommend the Stealth hitch. Have Stealth on mine and did the install myself. Any trailer installation shop or U-Haul will install it for you for around $100. Both are tow rated as much or more than the factory hitch.

My understanding is that the factory towing package is identical to a dealer-installed Kia hitch package except the the self-leveling rear suspension, which you don’t really need for your application but is a nice feature for any Telluride that will be carrying heavy cargo, even in the cabin.

As to dealer competence, it’s a pretty straightforward job and MUCH easier with a lift. I don’t know if it requires cutting a hole in the bumper....this is the one area where they can, literally, hack the job up.

I’m in the same boat as I want an EX withtowing and the bench seat. I’ve yet to see one in dealer inventory - towing is rare and if they have the towing they almost always seem to have the captain chair option. I may have to order.

You and I think alike. Thanks!

They’re out there; I just keep calling a few hours too late.
I’m curious what part of the country do you live. I’m on the east coast and it seems like about half have hitches. I’ve also found very few dealers are willing to place an order.

There is a cover you order to replace the existing one. If your too cheap to pay that money, the existing one could probably be hacked up.

Had one installed by the dealer a few weeks ago. All hardware comes with the tow hitch including new trim piece that makes the job look neat.

Is that bottom one the "before" or is it a cover that was able to hide the hitch when not being used?

The bottom pic is before, there is no cover to hide the hitch.

Do you mind sharing how much that cost?

In all honesty I just installed a Curt hitch on mine. After reading about the self leveling issues in the models with the tow package, I’m glad I got mine without it. You can’t break anything putting the hitch on. Super easy and there are YouTube videos. Or pay someone. I opted not to order the trim piece and just cut mine but mounting the seven pin connector is a little tricky. This is where the custom trim piece would be helpful. Note that the custom trim piece is like a flat black not a glossy black.

The price and the availability of KIA OE hitch was an issue but may becoming more abundant judging from some recent post. I would go with this one over the aftermarket because once its in and installed, it is identical as it came from the factory. As far installation, I only trust myself or a small garage that I actually know the mechanics. U-haul or dealers is a mixed bag anytime. I have had trim parts broken and scratched, missing clips, and who know what else from high end AUDI and BMW dealers. With the issue of help these days, you may be getting a service tech that was washing cars one day and now is working on them, possible yours. If you can't do it, contact a friend, family or neighbor that knows a little about cars and buy him a case of beer. I would rate the difficulty a 2-3/10.

No affiliation or experience with this seller but this is an example. You still need a wiring harness and trim piece, but this is available from CURT or etrailer for much less then OE. S9F61-AU000 OEM Trailer Tow Hitch For Kia Telluride | eBay

@PittPa Is the eBay link kit you mention above compatible with a 2022 model? It doesn't say it is, but . . .

I am about 99.84% it is but I have no experience with this so I can't go 100. But I think it would work since there hasn't been any changes to the body style in 2022 Here is another that is close to the same price.

I actually got mine from a dealership that was selling on Ebay so I felt a bit better about everything. The first auction I sent is not in the original packaging which could be an issue. If everything is in the original box and unopened, that is always a better option, you might need to make contact and ask. And if they reply quickly with the answer, another positive for the seller.
