• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... I’m placing my order for a 2022 SX tomorrow. I’ve seen comments about the towing package having issues due to the self-leveling suspension. I will likely never haul a very heavy load, probably only our two kayaks on a small trailer. I’m considering the trailer hitch option for around $475. Has anyone gotten this instead of the tow package? Would it be cheaper or more beneficial to do an aftermarket trailer hitch installation?

There is 10 pages of everything you asked about and opinions you can consider. Short answer, no you don't need the complete towing package. Currently, this is what I use. The aftermarket question is brought up often below. Good luck.

I ordered just the tow hitch for the many reason discussed in that thread.

Does it come with the electronics? So if I wanted to tow a small trailer with brake lights?

Yes, it comes with the harness and trailer plug just as in the towing package

A small trailer with brake lights and no electronic brake is probably a 4 wire flat connection. Both the tow option and tow package have the vehicle harness and a 7way round connector, but you will just need a ~$10 7-way to 4-way adapter. If your trailer has electric brakes you will need a brake controller.
