Can anyone tell me if you get a transmission oil cooler if you get the tow package?? I have tried to find the info, and at best it's ambiguous. Also, another bit of mystery is, do ALL SX models come with the suspension leveling, or it it only for the tow package?? Thanks for the help

Posted about this earlier since Hyundai lists all Palisade are pre-equiped from factory with a "heavy duty" transmission cooler and pre-wiring, supposedly so does the Telluride but really no idea as to how much marketing lingo is in that transmission cooler.

You only get the self-leveling suspension with the tow package, and the tow package does not include any extra tranny cooling.

Thanks for the info, I have had many F150's, all with the tow package, and they all came with the cooler. I don't understand why they would sell a vehicle that is set up to tow, even only 5K, without it.Oh well, it is what it is!!

Yes, well like @Baz said, it is a mystery what kind of stock transmission cooler, if at all is included. If you are going to be towing close to max specs, maybe you could get an aftermarket version—but I have no idea how that would even work!

Has anyone verified this by looking underneath the vehicle for one? We won't be towing with ours when it gets here but someone here has to know if a trans cooler is on the vehicle or not.
They're not horrible to install either and most kits should be under $100. They usually have adapters for the new cooler lines right where the oil filter is. You can even go nuts and buy one with a fan setup.

It has a transmission cooler, pretty much all automatics do, even my Mustang, think its more a question of is it just any old cooler and they say heavy duty, or this a serious cooler you see on other tow setups. Part# is 25620-1U500 which shows as pretty much the same used on a few Hyundai and Kia models.

I would think the simplest way to measure is to find an OBD reader compatible with the Kia Telluride that monitors max coolant temperature. I imagine you can just drive and tow and see if you stay under the recommended ~220. You‘ll know then if the Kia transmission cooling system is keeping the Kia fluid within a safe range and there is no need to install an additional cooler.

you would think that Kia would disclose it in their description for the towing package. It has always been that way for ALL the other vehicles I have bought with that package. If I was a betting man, I'd say no cooler

I believe we have confirmed it has a transmission cooler and even have the part number but no one has put eyes on where it is.

The debate is whether the cooler is enough when towing or some people are suggesting that it requires a heavy duty one (or second one) because Kia doesn’t advertise the current one and only say that the vehicle is rated to tow 5,000lbs. I see this as a change in times. Maybe it use to be that trucks and smaller SUVs advertised heavier duty transmission coolers as part of the towing package to hide the fact that without the towing package they only had a radiator or put in a cooler not rated for towing. But now it’s just standard?

I think this is just some confusing marketing. If you look at older Kia models (Sedona and Sorento) that were only rated for 1,650 or 3,500 in towing, some other forums complain that those vehicles didn't have transmission coolers so they had to go and buy aftermarket ones. But maybe since Kia is advertising on all trims of the Telluride as capable of towing up to 5,000 with just the two option (Hitch and harness) that is in part because they added a transmission cooler standard and don't feel a need to mention it like the Hyundai Palisade does?

I plan to just stick to the Kia branded transmission fluid and if I were doing lots of towing, plan to flush on a somewhat regular basis. But if you are super worried and are a serious 5,000lb tower, get an oil temp gauge or OBD reader to monitor temperature and if you are really worried, consider adding something like a Flex-a-lite secondary cooler for a couple hundred $s if you simply don't trust that Kia spec'ed the engine and transmission accordingly.

Does anyone know what this part is right below the battery that appears to be connected to the radiator? I don’t know any better but it looks to me like 25620-1U500.

Bump. Does anyone else agree that the part below the battery might be the illusive transmission oil cooler?

Pretty sure they both come with transmission oil coolers standard. Towing package on Telly is just hitch and self leveling shocks. The Palisade Limited comes standard with self leveling shocks and the hitch is a $395.00 option. Both come prewired. Check on etrailer.com to see that.

I agree, but I think what may have started this thread and others like it is the fact that you go to Hyundai's website and under Drivetrain for the the specs of the Palisade they specifically call out the Transmission cooler 2020 Hyundai Palisade - Features and Specs | Hyundai. But if you go to the Kia Telluride specs there is no mention of one 2021 Kia Telluride Vehicle Features & Specs | Kia.

I think there are a few more differences in the Tow Option and Tow Packages for the Telluride vs Palisade.
TelluridePalisade
Prewiring12-pin connection hidden under the left rear quarter panel not mentioned in the specs12-pin connection hidden under the left rear quarter panel mentioned in the specs
Transmission CoolerPresumed included but not mentioned in the specsMentioned in the Specs as standard
OEM Hitch with ball mountS9F61-AU000 Included with the Tow Option (TO) and Tow Package (TWJ)Included in the Tow option (part # S8F61 AU000)
OEM bumper cover for exact fit installS9F61 AU060 Included with the TO and TWJNot required, the hitch hangs below the bumper
Trailer wiring harnessS9F67 AC000 Included with TO and TWJ, in 2020 included a 5.5 Amp OEM 4-pin, new for 2021 this is upgraded to a 7-pin ?? Amps? Part # ? (aftermarket 4 and 7 pin options are more amperage capable and less cost for the individual part)After purchase accessory (part # S8F67 AC400)
Self-Leveling Rear Suspension (Nivomat shocks and bigger springs)Included with the TWJIncluded in the Convenience Package
MSRP for Tow Option (LX, S, EX or SX) or (SE, SEL, Limited)475 (2021 MSRP)395 (2020 MSRP)
MSRP for Kia Tow Package (EX and SX) not available for LX or S795 (2021 MSRP)no such package
MSRP for Hyundai Convenience Package (SEL, Limited) not available for SEnot applicable2,200 (2020 MSRP) for SEL, included in Limited

So to get the same "Tow Option" in the Palisade you have to buy the Hitch and then the harness as an accessory either from Kia or aftermarket. The Nivomats are packaged in the US as a Towing benefit in the Kia but a Convenience benefit for the Palisade. I said US because we learned in this forum that the Middle East configuration of the Telluride the Nivomats are standard on the GT-Line and there is no towing package.

you are on the money, that's why I asked the question, even if I wasn't towing anything, the cooler would be a plus !!

@bruesjoh04 Since you have the ability to park your Telluride and Palisade side by side and compare, would you be able to open the hood and see if you can identify is there is something that looks like a transmission cooler under/near the battery tray of the Palisade or connected to the radiator, and if it looks like the same as the Telluride? tranny cooler with tow package

Hard to tell from the pic but those tubes going into it look the part, sure does look small thought. Just found this: Trans Oil Cooler for 2020 Kia Telluride | Kia Parts AccessoriesView attachment 8523
I guess I am behind the times when it comes to automotive engineering. A transmission cooler in my mind looks like a small radiator and is usually located parallel to the radiator so uses the same airflow as the radiator. Is this device running engine coolant through it to cool the tranny fluid?

I can’t see how else it would work, looks too small to me but I’m also used to the old air cooled transmission radiator. I’m assuming the coolant method must be far more efficient and therefore can be more compact.
