• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Will there ever be a higher performance Telluride? I'd buy one for sure.

Some have asked that the Stinger engine be added to an option but... from what I have seen of even the German Supercharged/Turbos... they do tend to wear out and are a $$$$itch to repair. Personally I am old school.... NOTHING beats HP than good old fashioned Cubic Inches... I wonder what ever happened to the Kia Borrego V8? or the 3.3-liter V6 unit, which is good for about 365 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque that is in the K900 or even the Hyundai Genesis V6 or V8... All we can do is wait... Even the Stinger is purported to get a V8 in the future.

Right now, many of us just wait for our T-rides with the present engine. Maybe … down the road... there may be a marketable performance chip offered up. Patience....

This question was asked during the focus group at Kia. I believe that they are considering all engine options and are looking to gauge interest. IMHO, I'd rather have more MPG with only a small hit on 0-60 than faster performance.

The Tau V8 will be seeing the last of its days - will be gone when the current Genesis G80 and G90 are replaced, as well as when the Kia Mohave (aka the Borrego) ends its run (still available in Korea and the Middle East and about to undergo a 2nd, more extensive refresh).

As stated, the 365 HP unit is the 3.3TT V6 that's in the GT trims of the Stinger (as well as the Genesis sedans and K900).

Can't really see Hyundai or Kia putting in the same (top-line) engine for their premium/lux brand brand/models in something like the Telluride and Palisade.

However, the 3.3TT V6 (400+ HP) will soon be replaced by a new (more powerful and efficient) 3.5TT V6 - which will first appear in the new G80 (and then make its way to the rest of the Genesis lineup, as well as the K900 and Stinger).

So, there's a slim possibility that H/K may feel that it would be ok to use the turbo 3.3 for its mainstream models, but will depend on ROI on the cost of adapting the engine for a FWD/transverse layout.

More likely, we'll see the new 2.5TT (around 285 HP in FWD application) added as an engine option; while the HP nos. may be similar, should provide greater initial torque than the NA 3.8L.

W/ electric motor assist to the turbo-4 can get over 300 HP; not clear if the current Telluride will get a hybrid version (at the very least, Kia should offer a 48V mild hybrid) or if that's going to have to wait until the next gen Telluride, which will be underpinned by the new N3 platform (new Sonata and Optima being the 1st models to get it).

I truly doubt it.

The Telluride is a smash as is. The frame is will not support the 3.3TT.

Part of the reason Kia sells its vehicles at the price-points they do is because the keep models simple and with very few options. Kia knows what it does well and sticks to that simple formula. "give 'em Everything."

More options equals more incremental and exponential costs.

To offer additional drive-train options would be cost prohibitive. As amazing as the Stinger is, too much of the Luxury Performance Crowd can't identify with Kia as a competitor. I don't think the Kia brand can support a $60,000+ sticker on anything.

If Hyundai were do attempt something as such, it won't be within the Kia brand. Most likely it'll be under the Genesis brand.

Genesis has 3 CUVs in development, not counting a dedicated BEV CUV.

Kia is pondering whether to do a (or 2) lux CUV using the same architecture as the Genesis CUVs.

The new Optima should be getting 3 (pure) ICE powertrains - the new NA 2.5, the 1.6T and the new 2.5T.

Other markets get different engines whether it be smaller displacement gasoline or diesel.

And on top of that, there are the electrified variants w/ the hybrid and PHEV.

Problem w/ engine choices for something like the Telluride is that there aren't engines that provide sufficient HP/torque outside the larger NA displacement V6 or the FI V6 (the latter, requiring development work to adapt it to FWD/transverse application; which is likely cost prohibitive if the only FWD=based vehicles to get it are the Telluride and Palisade).

That's why the likely option of an additional powerplant is the new 2.5T (providing about the same HP, but more low-end torque), possibly w/ some sort of electrification (48V mild hybrid system?).

I hope they are really working as reported to bring a true off-road edition. That will be lights out for the JGC.

What if they offered a hybrid as the only option? Let’s face it, it’s a family hauler. The reason I say that after reading everyone’s comments is that if you want performance, buy a stinger and if Kia wants to keep costs down, engine choice is the way to go.

Or go the route of the V8... Like they offered in the Borrego? It seems that a turbo would only be used with fwd. Personally I find what I have in my SXP adequate for my needs. I am sure there will be an aftermarket full of enhancements coming soon. I wanted roomy and a taste of luxury and the T-Ride gives it to me.

There are many other brands on the market .. right now... that offer what you seem to want today... I know this guy who had a chance to go over my SXP and he just bought a Denali .... He is a GM employee and got his discount....paid $80k+. He said he wished he would have waited.

I had a well known paint restorer/detailed ceramic my T-Ride. He has had many Euro brands in his shop... MB, Porche, and higher and he was impressed enough to consider buying a T-Ride next time he needs to buy. It seems anything close in Euro... would be near or over the $100k Mark with all the options. So far... I am happy with my purchase.
