Urban bumper protection (Bull or Brush bars)

Wiluride, lots of people have been searching for that solution. Some non-US market Tellys (e.g., Middle East) have the tie-down/recovery ports on the Telly. US Telly's don't have them, although I have to believe the screw in spots are still there...we just need to locate them so we can drill holes in the fascia and purchase the screw in eye loops.

I see a black dot on the front and rear bumpers passengers side on the Telluride LX that goes to Abu Dhabi. Is that the tow hook point? The LX that gets exported is a morph of the US spec LX and S and then some. It has roof rails, 20” wheels, 7 seat (captains chairs) and fog lights. I think that in the low price point would make for a more attractive LX spec US. I don’t see the same black dots on the GT Line pictures.

I don't know the exact spot in the rear, although I suspect it is on the driver's side. In the front, it is underneath the large pop-out cover directly above the passenger-side fog light.

It would be great if someone that has removed the front or rear fascias (or seen their car after a front- or rear-ender) could confirm if the female thread is behind the fascia in all models. At least then we could potentially drill a small locator hole and then enlarge it to accommodate a recovery eye loop. Same for the rear. Once I purchase my Telly, I would make access the possibly leave recovery loops there all the time since I plan to offroad it.

That's basically my point. Something that should be relatively simple hasn't really got a solution yet...

If there's a solid enough mount available for a tow hook, it would seem like the same mount points could be useful for Bush guards and such.
 
In all fairness; most owners are worried about getting stuck or the need to have a tow hook sticking out the front of the vehicle. There just isn’t a big need for most of us
 
"Utility" in the US is more about grocery hooks and how to connect car seats. Less about road utility. I just don't get why the different bumper covers.

Peaking inside the engine bay, there is a frame support that the engine mounts connect to that appears to be right behind where that pop out is on the front.

Can anyone help?

I want something that can actually mounted to the frame underneath and not just a flimsy clip on aesthetic thing.

Any ones that can plow/push snow and other freeway obstructions to both sides of the Telly?

I agree that most owners are everyday street drivers, but Kia is pushing the Telly's off-road prowess. Plus, others have posted comments about the issues if one gets stuck in snow or slides off the road. Or for that matter pulling a stalled car up a flatbed tow truck. The straps will probably rip out parts of the front bumper/fascia. Okay if you were in a front-ender, damage was done. But if I was conked out on the side of the road and needed a tow, I'm not keen on having my vehicle damaged just to flatbed it.

Why not have the pop-off covers in N.America spec'd vehicles like the Middle East? It doesn't make sense to me and I was in the automotive production business. I'm not aware of any specs preventing it. But since we can't control Kia, I'm back to the issue of finding out if the female threaded holes are there for the eye loop. I hope someone can find out.
 
I agree; who knows why Kia does what it does sometimes. I’m sure someone will get it figured out eventually

For some perspective, Telly is only on the 2nd model year.

There will be a 2022.

There will be a refresh in the middle of the product life cycle.

Let’s see what KMA includes in the 2022, 2023.

Remote start on the 2021 Telly key fob shows that Kia can correct 2020 oversights.

Right now their constraint is production capacity at KMMG West Point, GA.

Can someone get the relevant info and present a quick capacity analysis on KMMG currently?

Optima lines can be switched to produce K5 but are any lines available to increase production capacity for Telluride?

Sorento is being produced at KMMG West Point too?
 
Personally; I could care less about a tow point. If I get stuck and the flatbed guy tears up my front end; well it’s on his company to foot the bill. I don’t off-road and it doesn’t snow enough in Texas to worry about it.

Are replacement Telly parts (quarter panels, front and rear bumper polymer trim pieces) quicker to get than the wait for an entire AWD Telly vehicle built at KMMG?
 
I don’t know. Fun fact though. Back in 08; my 07 Acadia (the 07 was the first year for that vehicle) was rear ended. I was at a stop at a red light and was hit by the other vehicle traveling 40 mph. The impact destroyed the back 1/3 of the vehicle. Insurance said fix it so off to the dealer it went. Waited 5 months for all the parts that had to come from the assembly plant in Michigan. They arrived with primer. The body shop at the dealer had to order the correct paint from Michigan as well because I had a special blue/gold color that wasn’t readily available. When it was all said and done; I waited 6 months for the vehicle to be fixed and back in my possession. At that time; you couldn’t hardly find another Acadia on a lot. That vehicle was very popular back then and it reminds me of the Telly today.
 
I see a lot of options for front protection. I’m curious what anyone has done for the rear. I was thinking of something like this from Black Horse. Has anyone installed something similar?

Looking at the pic in this post it doesn’t appear that there is a thread behind the fascia in the same spot as the circle plastic pop out on the Middle East Telluride bumper. Retrofit EX with SX LED headlights

That’s what is being theorized because the Middle East Telluride has a round cap on the front passenger side at about the same spot.

 
To me, there would need to be more than just thread holes back there. I bet that metal bumper part is at least two or three inches behind the surface of the front of the plastic bumper cover. A tow hook would have to be very ridgid, and likely should attach well in back of the front surface of the metal that goes across the two frame mount points.

If I were to design a tow hook for the front, I'd use about 1/2" steel plate, that mounted like I've drawn in red in this attached photo, bolted on , or somehow very securely fastened to this area. Then have a slot cut through the front plastic bumper cover to allow it to stick out past the plastic cover . The yellow line is my effort to show aproximiately were I think the front of the plastic bumper cover likely is. If all you had was a rod that went back to that metal, I suspect it would bend way to easily to be of any real value in pulling a Telluride out of a stuck postion .

Ideally, the entire front metal bumper area whould be reinforced , from one side to the other, with hooks fashioned similar to my depiction on both sides.
