Wait Times

Called the dealership today to get a feel for where I am at and to better understand next steps when they transition over to 2023s.

As I've read elsewhere on here, they will contact customers with pending orders and work through the new trims/options/etc. No big surprise there. However, when I asked where I am in line, the fella at the dealership told me that I am #132 in line. After 7 going on 8 months, I am still 132nd in line. Haha what? How is that possible? Were there 65,000 orders in the queue when I placed mine in 2021? He said as it stands today, it'd likely take another 4 to 4.5 months based on the amount of orders they've been filling in recent months but it is possible that it could be sooner as they usually see the amount of orders filled increase after a new model starts production.

I mean....I've waited this long so might as well stick with it but....frick man.

You have my sympathy. It must be frustrating to see the timeline keep receding, like the hotel hallway in The Shining.

But if I may -- The past eight months are gone regardless of what you choose to do now. Don't let past waiting justify future waiting all by itself (doing so would be an example of the sunk cost fallacy). You can make a fresh decision at this moment: Is it better to wait for a specific, custom 2023 Telluride for 4-5 months (perhaps less, but also perhaps more), or to change your strategy and buy the best fit you can find quickly, or switch to a different vehicle entirely? I don't know what the best course would be for you; I'm just suggesting that you not allow inertia to make the choice.

Not sure if there are any other 3 row SUVs out there that provide the bang for your buck like the Telluride does (or that I suspect it does).

Guess I’ll have to stay patient!

Doubt I'd find another 3 row SUV that provides the same bang for your buck that a Telluride does (or that I suspect it does).

The go-to backup plan for many is the Hyundai Palisade, which is similarly priced and equipped. Its 2023s are already out. Of course, prompt delivery is not certain with that choice either. And there are always styling preferences to consider.

The current Nissan Pathfinder is in the ballpark too. The Toyota Highlander as well (though I find the 2022 unattractive, the coming 2023 seems better). I did a lot of looking at the Jeep Grand Cherokee L when I was shopping, but it's pricier for no particularly good reason.
