If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Who Is Paying These Wild Dealer Markups on Hyundai/Kia Crossovers?

As much as I am excited to eventually get my Telluride (currently discussing how I want my configured with Lucas at Muncie), I would never ever pay over MSRP for any vehicle on Earth. I think it's impulsive and foolish, and then sets a bad precedent that screws everyone else in the market. The best way to stop unscrupulous dealers from adding ridiculous upcharges is to let them sit on their inventory. This is why I'm happy to drive 4 hours to IN to give my business to Muncie, they're the only dealer even close to me who is willing to work with Costco pricing.

Ahh yes, I really want a Telluride... but sure I'll settle for a Sorento?

Because ... /S

I just received an email from a dealer who swore he had the car I wanted at no markup. So I asked for an email confirmation of the price. After a week or so, here is my "at MSRP" response - $9995 over MSRP due to the "rarity" of the vehicle. I wondered why it sat on his lot for months:

Thank you for getting back to me. Unfortunately we will not let the SX with the Prestige Package go for MSRP. There is a $9,995 addendum for adjusted market value and rarity of the vehicle. Maybe you are better off looking at a Sorento as there are rebates available on those vehicles.

What a condescending response.

"Earning customers for life, one family at a time"

yes, they've shipped to california and new jersey all the way down to Florida.
We even ship to Hawaii. Alaska.... Where are you?

Wow. Sorento? Nice way to treat you. I'll apologize for him. Nobody should be treated like that.
Worse was the lies saying they would sell at MSRP and make me drive all the way up to NH for nothing. Basically a 4 1/2-5 hour round trip. Had I not asked them to put it explicitly in writing they would have been happy too just waste my time.

I think some dealers just default into pushing certain vehicles. When I was looking for a K900, the dealer low balled me on my trade and asked me to take a look at a mid range Optima instead. Hard pass

Very Hard Pass!

Wow, I'm pretty sure several dealers in MA are not marking them up. At least they didn't when I ordered last April. Maybe worth a few phone calls and a 2 hour trip to save 10K. Good luck.

Hey Bananahead,
I respect your position where you would never pay over MSRP for any vehicle, but I disagree where you feel anyone who did is impulsive and foolish. There has to be a "it depends" for any equation. I paid over MSRP...do I feel that everyone should make such a decision; NO. Do I feel that it's OK for certain dealers to take advantage of potential buyers; absolutely not!!! But this particular vehicle (in my opinion) is a current day rare gem when comparing to the "status quo" of it's segment. We're getting so much more (price-wise) for what is on the benchmark currently. That being said, again I agree that Overall paying over MSRP is NOT best practice or advisable overall when "buying a car" but there are time where the buyer is still making an investment that will have a positive return...just not as much as others...but it still can be a positive.
...again "it depends" :)

That might just be the most perfectly written, nonconfrontational, respectable difference of opinion I've ever read. Refreshing to see that a difference of opinion doesn't have to result in insults and low blows. Thank you!
