Wife hated the Sorento, loved the Telluride

Just put a deposit down on a S model, Gravity Grey/Grey interior....dealer just happened to have one on the way and it will be here in 4 weeks. Glad we won't have to wait long.

She drove a Durango Hemi Limited for 10 years. It was a decent SUV, but it ate pads and rotors about every 18k miles. It also had a fit and finish problem where the front doors would catch cross winds and would howl very loudly. It pulled a small motorcycle race-trailer nicely, but I would not buy another one.

Started looking at a Tahoe but couldn't get past the $60k+ price tag. The Highlander, Explorer, Pilot, and Sorento didn't provide any excitement even though they are all decent vehicles on paper. The Telluride was a surprise find when I started doing research a few months ago.

I quickly found out in northern CA that dealer inventory is tight, and every dealer was about $3k to $10k over MSRP. The S model FWD was the perfect model for us and my wife fell in love with the Gravity Grey with grey interior. Unfortunately, we only found one in San Jose and one or two in Los Angeles.

Since I used to work for a Ford QVM upfitter and had relationships with about 50 Ford fleet departments from Alaska to Hawaii, I made a few calls. It turns out a local Ford dealer 5 miles from my house had a Grey/Grey S inbound as a stock unit with no order against it. Their markup was $4995 over sticker. I dropped a few names and they agreed to sell it to me for $995 over sticker. The manager showed me a folder of about 50 pre-sold units that were all in the range of $3500-$6k over sticker. He said I would be their first sale at less than $3k over sticker for a 2021.

The unit lands in 4 weeks so I'm fairly pleased with the process. It sounds like many people here have had a more difficult time so I feel pretty blessed. I have never paid MSRP for any vehicle, but considering what I'm getting vs other options, I'm happy to pay extra for the Telluride.

So I drove both this summer and hated the way the Sorento drove as well but loved the Telly. Managed to buy one that arrived on the lot 24 hrs before and was unclaimed. I have no idea how I got that lucky.

Ours arrives on the 19th. It was inbound and one of the few that was unclaimed on the board at our local dealership. Ordering up black 8.5" wide wheels this week. Based on the info I've seen, Gravity Gray/Gray is a somewhat rare combo. We can't wait.

The next gen Sorento underpinned by the new platform and with the 2.5T and 8 spd DCT is supposedly a lot more fun to drive than the old model.

Yes, we saw the video of the new model and it looks really nice. But for the price, content, and looks we are going with the Telluride.

My wife has the old Sorento (V6 from 2016). She loves it, but I never liked it. At the time, I drove a V6 Impala, which was comfortable and drove great, but lacked too many amenities.

The Telluride is everything I wish the Sorento had been. I'm a little wary of the lost of the V6 option in the Sorento, but it was one of the least exciting V6s I'd ever driven.

the North American market will get the V6 , maybe not the Hybrid !!

When I picked up my Telluride last weekend, Lucas at Muncie mentioned that he had noticed the day before that the new Sorento had been added to one of the menus in K-Dealer with three options: Sorento, Sorento Hybrid, and Sorento Plug In. He cautioned that so far, choosing one of those from the drop-down did nothing yet, and that they often add selections at first that aren't available in all areas/states

Well, if the Sorento has a V6 option, is more fun to drive, and has lots of tech, then I may consider replacing the wife's old Sorento. However, she doesn't care about tech and is pretty happy with the old one. She also tends to bang it around in our too tight garage (just as long as she doesn't run into my Telluride). Thus, if she doesn't care about an upgrade, and I don't have to drive her SUV, she can drive it until it falls apart.

Well, the Gray/Gray S arrived a few days early and within 24 hours, we had it in the shop for new 20x9 Drag DR-77's. The wheel swap completely changed the stance and character of this thing. I even installed the badges from this site. It's a unique vehicle in our neighborhood full of Acuras, Toyotas, Hondas, and Range Rovers. I feel like we just got elevated to rockstar status. And I thought my leveled Superduty was cool. This Telly is striking.
