If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Perhaps it's something software related? Something that was up to Google to prepare and it wasn't just ready yet?

That would be nice, but like I said, I wouldn’t bet on it. It’s already enabled and going on the 8” screen on the new Sorento/K5/Palisade/Elantra/etc. I can’t think of any good reason for them to hold it back on 10.25” screens if the capability is there (which is why I’m convinced it isn’t). They definitely wouldn’t be waiting on Google... wireless Android Auto already exists and is already functioning on models with the 8” display.

Speaking of updates. Kia still has not even updated the existing 10.25” screen on the Telluride, etc to support widescreen Android Auto. That is something that could actually be enabled by a software update, since AA supports widescreen formats now (it didn’t when the Telluride was first released, so the system doesn’t think it’s a possibility).

As with anything, don’t buy with the hope or expectation of future updates. If they do happen, awesome, but if it doesn’t work to your liking out of the box, it may be that way forever.

Still not what is needed. Instead of your phone taking up the media port on your head unit, the box has to use it. What is needed is a box that will do the AA over bluetooth so it frees up the media USB slot for a thumb drive full of music. I loved that the Sorento had a hard drive to store your music on so you could play it and then use the USB for AA. Don't know why that hasn't come back into the Kia line up.
Wireless AA and Carplay work via a wifi-modem in the vehicle, not bluetooth. You wouldn't want it running via bluetooth anyhow though, it can't support the amount of data and speed in which you need info transferred.

The car more or less has to have a wireless modem pre-installed in the car to make possible. Most cars that have LTE hotspot connectivity also have wireless CarPlay and AA available.

Basically think of it like how Apple's Airplay or Google's Cast features work, has to run through a wifi signal.

Do you have any idea how can we confirm if people at KIA are at least thinking about the possibility to upgrade existing 10.25 systems to support Wireless AA (assuming there's already proper hardware inside).

Or perhaps we can ask them (how?) if they can confirm that it won't happen for sure? I doubt that e-mailing any local dealer would bring us answers we're looking for :)

I put a new receiver in my old pickup so I could add a backup camera, and the wireless CarPlay has spoiled me a bit. Anybody with first-hand experience with the add-on dongles? I don't mind using up the port if it works well.

I would operate with the assumption that all current systems that do not support CarPlay or Android Auto wirelessly will never be able to, or else they would already have that feature.

I don’t know who could be contacted to give more information on the situation... Kia’s general number would give you someone who doesn’t know anything about anything, and even if it could be escalated, they’re not going to divulge future plans. Dealers would be just as unhelpful.

Probably the most research that could be done on it would be comparing the software/hardware/firmware/etc versions from the 2021 K5 and Hyundai Palisade with an 8” screen to that of the 2021 Telluride LX or S (8” screens) to see what differences/similarities there are. The 2021 K5 and Palisade both have wireless CarPlay/AA support with that small screen, but the 2021 Telluride LX and S still don’t.

My primary phone is an iPhone and I have used the CarPlay2Air adapter since January.

I commented about it here and here in the past. I’m still very happy with it.

Unfortunately for those who are exclusively Android, the only similar thing is this, as mentioned earlier in this thread. And as of right now, the earliest you’d expect one would be in March, if at all.

After ready this thread I have no more Idea than I started with so I think y'all are saying that the 2021 LX and S models have wireless android from the factory right now, is that correct? Have a model S on order now and would like that feature.

Incorrect. No current Telluride offers wireless CarPlay or Android Auto as a feature. (See post 2 for this answer).

A few other 2021 Kia/Hyundai products with the 8” screen have been supporting wireless CarPlay and Android Auto. The Telluride is NOT one of those.

Thanks for clearing that up for me, I did read your original post but then things got murky to me after that with other cross post. Unfortunately in this case we are an Android family so we will have to wait. I also hope some will be able to upgrade the head unit in the future. I know I have other custom modes done to OEM head units in the past as there always seems to be some young enterprising guy in Japan that you can ship it to along with $500 bucks and they can always seem to be able to fix the factory short comings.

This is not a module that will enable wireless AA but another option to consider if you just want AA interface to work without plugging in your phone.

It runs on an older version of android but maybe there is a way to get it to communicate with your texts and phone calls to “mimic” the phone AA experience.

I picked up my Sorento last week. According to the engineering menu, the 10.25" head unit is equipped with BCM89359 5G WiFi/Bluetooth Smart 2X2 MIMO Combo Chip with RSDB Support. Its key features are:
  • Optimized for seamless interaction with enhanced wireless applications and feature-rich systems like Apple CarPlay and Google Auto Link, the BCM89359 device is the first WLAN combo architected specifically for multi-band concurrent automotive infotainment and telematics operation.
  • RSDB support enables simultaneous connectivity to the 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz bands, improving throughput and latency when using multiple applications.
  • Integrated 5G WiFi technology provides the bandwidth required for multiple high resolution in-car displays, allowing uncongested 5GHz video to coexist concurrently with Wi-Fi Internet access and 2.4GHz Bluetooth hands-free audio.
  • 2x2 MIMO technology delivers twice the Wi-Fi performance of any other solution on the market today, providing the highest throughput in-car network possible for multiple user experiences.
  • A dedicated Bluetooth antenna enables concurrent operation of Bluetooth and WLAN applications and employs advanced coexistence algorithms to maximize voice quality and data access speed in simultaneous operation.

I was a little miffed - 50k+ for my new Telluride SX Nightfall, and no wireless Android Auto.

Ah well, others are picking up the slack: AAWireless

This thing ONLY makes the AA connection wireless, it doesn't run its own instance of AA like the CarDroid thing is expected to.

If someone wants to try Wireless Android Auto, but the car doesn't support it, you could try a special adapter like Carsifi
It works on all head units which supports wired Android Auto. The connection is pretty stable and there is no difference compared to wired. In case if you have a wireless charger is a big advantage, because wireless connection(Wifi) + Bluetooth(not Ble) drain the battery.

Sorry guys, never had a car with Android Auto or the Apple version of it - is it a specific cable or is it just the regular cable that charges it? I have an Android and the wife an iPhone, is there such a doodad like you guys are showing that would work with both? I would get one but getting two different little boxes for that purpose is kinda overkill.

In my mind these Android Auto things were wireless, lol. I figured if Bluetooth can do it wireless, there wouldn't be any reason for the Auto/AirPlay not to be wireless as well.

Just got my vehicle yesterday. I was shocked android auto was not wireless. Is there a way to play Spotify from phone through bluetooth without connecting to android auto? I don't want to have to plug my phone in every time I get in the car to listen to my music. Surely on a vehicle that costs 50k+ I can do this?? help!
ok wait. you can't connect your phone via Bluetooth and play the songs on your phone through the car's speakers like cars from two decades ago were already able to?

There has never been any documentation to suggest that any Telluride has wireless Android Auto (or CarPlay) from the factory, so not sure why you were expecting that.

But Bluetooth audio continues to work great for things like Spotify if you don’t want to plug your phone in to get AA (or buy and wait for an adapter like this).
