I'm in the market to purchase my first family SUV and have definitely had my eyes set on the Telluride since I first saw it 2 weeks ago. With that said, I know it has been SO difficult trying to find Telluride SX-P/nightfall editions on dealer lots -- even more so, finding them at or near MSRP. For you who currently own Tellurides or have done a lot of research, what is the best way you've went about purchasing or placing an order?

I'm currently located in the Sacramento-area and have reached out to local dealers. The markups have been crazy ($5K at Folsom Lake Kia [order time is 90 days], $5K at Roseville Kia, and $12K at Elk Grove Kia). I've seen many posts recommending Hilltop Kia in the Bay Area, which I've placed my order, but 8 months is pretty far out! Wanted to get a sense of way you all may have purchased. Did you suck it up and pay above MSRP? Did you order out-of-state? Did you wait? I'd love to hear your experiences and any tips on purchasing here in CA! My excited side wants to have one TODAY, but my rational side also does not want to pay more than I should for the vehicle. 😅 ANY tips, recommendations, or advice would be amazing!

Looks like I need to follow this post because I'm in the EXACT same boat! Looking for the same vehicle and also in Sac! I went to Roseville yesterday and can confirm the $5k price. Folsom said if we order now, it may be here in time for summer. Now after seeing this post, I won't be talking to Elk Grove...$12k!? Hopefully someone replies soon with some helpful info!

If you're okay with $2K over MSRP, try Jaymz Maurer (jaymz.maurer@gmail.com) at Valley Kia of Modesto for a 90 day order. I ordered a standard Wolf Grey SXP so it's possible anything more unique would be longer. Deposit was $500, order was in KFOS a week later. They don't normally order a lot of SXPs so there's no one in front of you like Hilltop. I looked up and down CA and neighboring states. Seiner Kia in Salt Lake will do an order, lot car or inbound for $1K VIN etching and misc. dealer stuff. Jeff Provenzano is the guy there.

We're down to one small car after turning in a Q7 lease and have a big roadtrip in June, so I sucked it up since an SUV rental neutralized the markup— I'd rather create memories for the kids in our own car.

I appreciate that info! I just sent him an email to inquire about the process. $2K over MSRP is the lowest markup I've heard of outside of Hilltop's no markup, so I don't mind biting the bullet if it's $2K. My wife and I have been going back and forth about waiting 8 months at Hilltop, or 3 months with the markup... but we need a SUV since our compact cars aren't cutting it anymore with our little one.

Any other "smaller" dealers who are selling close to MSRP for custom orders?

Just got my Dark Moss / Dune Brown for MSRP @ Car Pros Kia Huntington Beach, CA. Built my config @ kia.com, email'd it over, order was submitted into KFOS (back in Dec 24) and the car was delivered in early Feb. Absolutely PERFECT!!! They FedEx the contract over to me to sign since I am leary about COVID-19 and busy dealerships. Everything was done online in a few mins.

My car is absolutely PERFECT!! Am shopping around in SoCal to tint the front side windows and wrap all windows + sunroofs in Xpel Prime XR plus (to reject up to 98% infrared heat).

BTW, I initially did a factory order from Kia North County for MSRP, but they added a $12k markup upon delivery. I pulled the plug and got my deposit back in a jiffy. Very dishonest dealership.

Anywho, do ask Car Pros Kia Huntington Beach to put the car on a carrier or flatbed and deliver it to you. Even if you ship cross-country (ie. my BMW 535i cost $950 to ship from NYC to San Diego, CA), it will be way cheaper than a $5000 - $12000 markup :) Give them a call (or go on their website).

Did Car Pros charge a markup for the order? They’re definitely closer to me than Hilltop (no mark up - long 6-8 month wait) or Valley KIA ($2,000 up charge 2-4 month wait).

Do have point of contact information you can pass along?

Thanks

So the way this sounds; the higher the markup the sooner you’ll get your vehicle? Hilltop has a longer wait because a lot of people want a vehicle without a markup. Then Valley Kia says a $2K up charge and you can have it in 2-4 months.

Car Pros did *NOT* charge a markup for my *FACTORY* order. I asked for and received MSRP without any haggling (do ask!!). However, anything on the lot will probably incur the dealer-installed accessories upcharge or a markup.

I dealt with Car Pros HB recently before I did the $2K Valley Kia order and they wouldn't commit to MSRP. Maybe that was something they were only doing last year?

I dealt with:

Bao Tran (Internet Mgr) > submitted my order into KFOS.
geo (Sales)
Sam Damani (Sales)

All three treated me exceptionally well. Good luck!

I went ahead and placed an order for a Telly SXP GWP + Nightfall Edition with Black interior as well with Jaymz over at Valley Kia in Modesto. Markup is $1995. 2-4 months wait is what I was told.

I did not want to wait 8+ months for the same order via Hilltop even though it was @ MSRP.

Reach out to @Moe at Hilltop Kia in Richmond CA. Zero markups, zero games (510) 230-9198

The only negative is the long wait time. I was quoted 8+ month wait for a loaded AWD SXP but if you're in no hurry, Hilltop is the way to go.

I ended up going with Hilltop. Irvine, Carson, Garden Grove, and CarPro Huntington Beach all wanted a mark up. Maybe HB needed to hit a quota for a certain month previously, but they said they would not do less than $3k mark up right now.

@flyckfly @MrTelluride

Update on my Valley Kia order. The VIN/sticker showed up on Failcat today. So it was 4 weeks from deposit to manufacture. Jaymz texted me proactively a few days ago saying the ETA was 4/30 (he didn't have VIN at that time).

My order happened right after the big Kia systems hack/fiasco. Not sure how that played into the timeline, but could have possibly accelerated it.

Thank you for the update! That’s great to know. I’ll be at 3 weeks this Friday, so I’m hoping to get an update by next week. I tried texting him recently, but he hasn’t responded. I’ll try again soon though. Glad to know there’s movement with that!

@MrTelluride - We live in the Sacramento area (Roseville) and just picked up our Telluride from Hilltop this past Friday. We stuck it out and our wait was 6 months but we got the Telluride we wanted. We also thought about purchasing out of state but really didn't want to pay the shipping. @Moe delivered at Hilltop and got us in and out so we could spend the rest of nice Friday in SF before heading home.

That’s awesome! I live in Elk Grove, and no way was I buying from any local dealers (the markups are crazy here!).

I’ll probably contact Lewis (the guy I’m working with at Hilltop) to see what the status is, and if they anticipate it to be before the 8 months. If not, I don’t mind pay a little markup at Valley Kia if it’s in the next couple months. Congrats on the new Telly though. So jealous, yet excited for you!
