• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Ok to get started I just bought my 2021 Telluride S Feb 13th. I have under 6 K miles on it and since the beginning my husband and I noticed when we were stopping it’s almost feeling like it accelerates. ( you can watch rpms going up) and it feels like it’s actually pushing you. I took it into the shop for this because it happened multiple times at stop signs, or coming to a stop. They couldn’t recreate the issue and honestly just told me to “catch it on video”. LOL.

fast forward a few weeks and it happens daily! Now as of yesterday I was at a stop light with auto hold & auto off both on. I was completely at a stop with both lights on green. And I feel it almost jumping, and ACCELERATING as I’m completely stopped. (No my feet weren’t on the gas) this scared me so I disengaged both. Few minutes later at another stop sign auto stop came on, as I pressed on the gas to go the light didn’t go off as normal, it started blinking green.

please someone help me understand what the hell is going on with my brand new car 😭 Dealership has been zero help.

Has anyone had similar issues?!?

Not sure, but sounds dangerous. If it's happening daily, have the service department go drive it. Maybe take a ride with them if they'll let you.

I did once already, but yes it is dangerous!! They literally show zero concern and made no effort to get me in earlier before MAY 3rd!!!!

Like LiquidUte said... if it's happening on a very regular basis... ask service to take it for a ride.

Or.. since this is COVID-19 days... and not likely that a service person could go for a drive with you, I may very well try to get it on video... Have your husband video tape while you drive, or vice versa .

If it really is happening so consistently now, it shouldn't be too hard to get your service folks to at least acknowledge the issue. If I were a service place, I'd be very concerned that you get into an accident and sue them for neglegance or something... It sounds like a very serious problem and, who knows how bad it might get or , how bad an accident could occur if it happens at a really bad time or location.

I personally wouldn't hardly even be willing to take any guesses as to what's causing it. Modern cars have a ton of electroincs and software involved, could be many many things.

I would try calling Kia directly, or at least try contacting another dealer. ( hopefully there are some other dealers not too far from you, because it sounds like you've not got a very good dealer )

Thank you!! You would think they would show some concern as it is a huge safety issue. They really asked if my “foot was on the gas” 🙄 And good idea about having my husband video! We’re not often in the car together so will have to make it a point lol thanks for the suggestion because I’m having a hard time capturing it happen as it’s so random when I drive.

I had saw a comment on here about a guy having issues and they sent him with a code thing put on his car and he pushes a button when it happens to capture the codes. I called and asked if they know about this and they had no idea what I’m talking about.

I wanted this car so bad, my first brand new car ever! This is so disappointing, I’m having some buyers remorse at this very moment 😢

I also did that, the next town over. When I told him the issues and if they have had any similar issues ( I’m extremely nice btw) lol he literally went SILENT! I had to say hello to get his attention. 😣 also no concern, and said they had no appointments until May. I bought mine 2 hours away so I was avoiding needing to drive there. But looking like I may

I would document everything including dates and times that this has happened, when you contacted and brought it in to Kia, what they told you, video of the issue, and email it to Kia and the service manager at the dealer you brought it to. It might be a bit passive aggressive, but it lets them know that they are on record for what could be a dangerous issue, and also gives you a record for in case anything serious happens and you need documentation.

Also, probably already did this, but check the floor mat and area around the pedals to make sure nothing is pressing on the pedal and that it is working correctly like returning fully to the "up" position when your foot is off it. Remember years back toyota had an issue with floor mats conflicting with the pedal and causing accidents.

I'm no mechanic, but I assume it could also be something with the throttle control be it physical or electronic.

Keep us updated and how it's resolved. Be safe!

Yes! Going to do that! Thank you.
I have a case number now just in case like you said! If it ever causes an accident god forbid, atleast I’ll have proof it’s been an issue.
And nope, mine when I purchased didn’t come with any cloth mats, so not those. I have the smart liners and they line up perfectly! Nothing pressing on them. I’ve tried finding any scenario caused by user error lol but no luck 😔

I definitely will! It goes to the shop in May but consumer affairs are going to work with the dealership so hopefully that helps!

Seeing as you are using aftermarket mats and it is most likely NOT the root cause of the issue, I suggest taking the driver's side mat out and seeing if you can reproduce the issue. I'd also remove the mat when you get to bring it into the dealer. To me, if it is happening with auto hold on and the vehicle stopped, if the gas pedal was being accidentally pressed, the vehicle would come out of auto hold. Good luck and stay safe!

Just to point out in case this is the problem you are experiencing, when auto stop (or idle stop and go) is active at a complete stop and your engine is off, it will still turn on your engine if it determines you have been stopped for longer than the battery discharge can sustain with the engine off. When this happens you will feel/hear the engine start back up, the ISG cluster icon will blink green 5 times and the RPMs on the tach will go from 0 to about 1000 RPM or idle speed (no different than when you normally start the car). If your car is disengaging auto stop more frequently at stops, could mean your battery is not getting charged enough to use auto stop. Also with the weather warming up, using climate controls will reduce how long auto stop stays active.

If you are seeing the engine revs per minute drift higher than 2000 rpm at a complete stop, then there indeed is some throttle being applied or perhaps a glitch with the ECU controlling the throttle unintentionally. Since the gas pedal/throttle is electronically controlled, it could be an electrical/computer malfunction causing this to happen. Also check with your husband he didn’t install any aftermarket pedal/throttle controller.

as I pressed on the gas to go the light didn’t go off as normal, it started blinking green.

If there is a malfunction with either Auto Stop or Auto Hold, the cluster icon would illuminate yellow. If the auto stop icon was blinking green, it could have been coincidental timing, the engine started on its own a fraction of a second before you stepped on the gas pedal.

@Ttkells it almost sounds like you are describing the auto hold and auto stop features. Does it happen when you have them off at a light? You could try the trick of putting a coin stuffed next to the button to see if you can get them to stay off and see if the issue can be recreated. I agree with @Tellthemride. Also wondering FWD or AWD?

It happens when it’s off when I’m driving normally, making turns, stopping at stop signs ( I live in the boonies) lol I’ve tried turning and leaving both off and it still happens. The time at the stop light that was the first time that part had happened. The feeling like it’s accelerating as I’m driving happens daily. I have a FWD!

I wonder if you have a problem in your fuel line, fuel filter, or fuel pump. Maybe you are running lean and the mix is off causing the RPMs to spike. What about fuel source? Have you tried different gas stations? Bad gas or buying gas when the fuel stations tanks are low causing stuff to stir up when you pump it in the car could give you poor performing fuel in the car.

So is it accelerating or decelerating? Do you come to a stop?

Again, is the car accelerating or are you stopped?

I have a 2021 telluride and as of the last four months it has been over idling as well. It helps to change the drive mode but eventually the problem starts up again exactly how the original poster said. My wife has a '21 sorento that was having a really bad version of the dame problem, but once they did a software update, her car was fine.
