April 2021 Infotainment Update?

My favorite new feature comes when using usb media. If I go to list - artist, I can check any number of artists that I choose to listen to and it mixes them all in. Same for album. This slightly makes up for the inexplicable lack of iPod compatibility and voice commands to control the usb device.

I retract my statement here. It does not remember your selections. When you restart the car, it only plays the artist that was playing when you last shut the car off, not the multiple selected.

This infotainment system lives on as hot garbage.

Doing this update now. Not sure why, but it seems like its doing 2 updates. We bought this car in late Feb 2021 and assumed it was up-to-date.

The first time it took probably 40 minutes and then restarted. Then that same window came up to update now or in the background. I didn't touch anything, was going to look on the net and it started updating again.

I hope its not stuck in some loop.

Thanks. It all worked last night, just took a long time. Sadly, my Battery Tender Jr couldn't keep up and was still charging this morning.

After dealing with km/h -> mph and other settings (like daylight savings time), I figured out that choosing the map, and then the small tab on the right makes 2/3 Map + 1/3 Radio. Done deal. And its vice-versa when you select the radio.

Its the wifes car and she has a road trip today. She was happy with the purple and 2/3-1/3 screen.

Again, thanks for this thread and the help. I bet you would sit at a dealer for 2 hours waiting for this to happen.

This morning the voice recognition just flat out sucked. For the past few months it has been 100 percent, we say "get directions to X" and it works.

Today we tried a bunch of times and it didn't understand. Wife was pissed.

Happen to anyone else with this update? Should I do a paperclip reset?

Add me to the list of people who hate the new home screen. What a huge waste of a 10 inch screen. 80% of it is blank and dark. The map on the right is 100% useless.

Whoever approved that at kia should be fired.

I don't know where are you using the voice recognition. For me, I can't use it unless my phone is connected and maybe Android Auto running, since my phone is Android.

English isn't my first language. However, it gets me right. It's just that sometimes it wouldn't get the names of the places, because of the way how they are pronounced, guess mostly because they aren't English names/words.

In this case, I would blame Google Assistant, not the system itself.

Was forced to update. Can live with the home screen because I don't ever use it. Can live with the purple because it doesn't effect functionality. The tube amps take up too much space though and the info seems cut off.

The worst thing about this update is the responsiveness. Definitely have to wait longer for some actions. Sucks.

I hate that when I press my star button for 'home' it takes me to the screen of icons instead of the 'widget' screen like before. Just the worst update.

75% of the people here are complaining about the home screen so maybe that is why it is a 2x press.
System won’t be perfect for everyone. 2x isn’t that big of a deal (to me at least). Lots of things use 2x tap - think windows where you double click to open a file.

Just completed the update. Besides the changes already listed on this thread, I noticed that they removed the .... button for switching to the next set of saved channels. Now they're using a more visible 1/4, 2/4, 3/4 approach based on all the saved channels.

Is the ability to change channel preset order back? I never understood why this went away with a previous update.

whoever designed that layout needs to be fired.

im not even a artist or designer, but look at the empty space vs the size of the functional pause and skip buttons. look at the size of the channel digits compared to the actual name of the channel thats playing. the fact that that design for the RADIO is in every newer kia out there is embarrassing. they should be ashamed

I agree 100%. That’s one of the things I loved about the old format, was the XM logo front and center nice and big. I don’t care that I’m on channel 047, I want to know that I’m on Octane!
It’s dumb, cartoonish, and makes the infotainment look like a joke.
