April 2021 Infotainment Update?

This morning the voice recognition just flat out sucked. For the past few months it has been 100 percent, we say "get directions to X" and it works.

Today we tried a bunch of times and it didn't understand. Wife was pissed.

Happen to anyone else with this update? Should I do a paperclip reset?

I have the same issue. That update introduced regressions. Also SXM channels could not be rewinded( at most 1hr back) as before whether or not you listened to it upon starting the vehicle. Need a hotfix ASAP

I am going to chime in that the voice recognition never works anymore. It was great before. Now it asks me to list a category after my initial request and 9 out of 10 times I don’t even know what to say.

I just started using one of my map apps in CarPlay.

Prior to retirement, I did a lot of technology consulting for a major auto manufacturer. It used to be that car companies required primarily mechanical expertise in their ranks. Electronics came in, but at first that was only internal to the car and didn't really affect the end user experience much. All that has changed dramatically in recent years, and cars are now heavily laden with software and a user interface. In my experience, this is still very new ground for car manufacturers. They work with outside companies for development, and their customer support structures and processes are not well designed to handle software issues. They don't have established feedback loops to understand what users really want and how things actually work in the real world with their products. Contrast this with phone manufacturers like Samsung and Apple. Kia is certainly no exception. What's clear to me is that we must force the feedback to occur. When voice recognition is faulty, call their support line and open a ticket. When features go missing, call Kia. When you want more configurability, call them. Right now, getting tickets in their systems is the only way to make them aware of the issues. Sometimes these issues are the result of their partner companies making changes that Kia isn't even aware of. That's a terrible way to handle software, but the only way they'll get better is if we force the communication.

I drove the car and want to say, I am OK with the displays.

The new purple screen is nice as almost something like a screen saver.

Press Map and I have this:


Press radio for this:


And then double pump Star for the purple screen saver.

If the voice chokes again I will start a ticket with Kia.

My AM reception has improved greatly since the update I did 3 days ago.

Am I in the minority. All I use is Spotify from my phone. Can’t remember the last time I used AM/FM radio and canceled Sirius right before the free trial ended. I think I used it once.

Same. The only time I listen to the radio is when I rarely listen to local NBA broadcasts.

I can confirm still not working for me.

Maybe this is an UVO subscription only feature now.
My nav will only now give me nearby destinations within a given category unless I manually type in the name.

Well I think it is working intermittently. Today the system was out of service for me ...

I’m trying to perform the April 2021 update. Had my battery charger/maintain plugged in during the update, just like I had for v14.5 last time I updated. It made it through the first 2 of 5 parts fine. Then the car turned off by itself while preparing the next update! I couldn’t believe it.

When I turned the accessories power back on it still said preparing update. Then eventually it started over again updating maps at part 1 of 5 again.

Very frustrating because it took about an hour for parts 1 and two alone already. Guess I need to keep pressing the volume buttons to keep it from shutting off by itself again.

Update:

Took about another hour to complete all parts the second time. Then it tried to turn the car off again during the restore data portion! This time I was here to restart immediately before the radio turned off completely. I think if you aren’t leaving the engine running you might need to power cycle through the ACC/ON/OFF to keep the head unit on. Since the radio still stays on for about 30 seconds or until you open the door in OFF mode. Turning/pressing the volume knob did not keep my head unit on. I still got the battery discharge warning.

I guess of you also have a 800mA charger, it isn’t enough juice to keep the car satisfied for this update version.

Thanks to bruesjoh04 for reminding me how to reset to MPH in the Nav settings in post 73.

All my settings were wiped, so had to set all my preferences and presets again.

I noticed compared to v14.5, when you switch between map and radio, and you use the opposite widgets in the split screen, they actually flip accordingly now when changing view modes. For example if I was on radio screen with map widget, switching to map in v14.5 would still keep map widget on the right. Made no sense to have map widget on the map screen and required swiping through the widgets to change to something else. Now switching to map in v15.0, the widget auto changes to map widget and vice versa.

For me at least, I lost real-time weather when my UVO ran out, but the Viasala weather looks to work after I made the update yesterday and I still am not paying for UVO.

I also ran out of my UVO paid subscription and I also have working Viasala weather functionality. Love it.

I have a 21 Telluride LX and it has the smaller screen without navigation. When I use the Navigation and Software updater to update the software it only shows 5W under notifications ==> List of Eligible vehicles...and I'm assuming that W is an abbreviation for the wide screen...so, does this mean there is no upgrade for the smaller screen? I've tried it 3 times and update failed and I'm beginning to think that is the problem.

I noticed that the Feb notification for Audio update shows no listing for 21 Telluride either...but the version for '20 Telluride is newer than mine. Not having real issues, just like a bit better voice recognition.

map widget shows overview of the entire drive. i prefer it. if you change the radio station it will pop out from the right over the overview map for a second or two

That was actually a new feature in 14.10, but sounds like you skipped past that one.

Your old settings/nav destinations/etc are likely in the guest profile (same issue happened when people upgraded to 14.10 from the older version without profiles.

You can copy your nav destinations and saved things from profile to profile with a USB stick.

Setup > Navigation > Others > User data

Yes, I remembered to check based on your previous tips. But nothing was saved when I switched between Guest, User 1 or User 2. Not sure if it has anything to do with the fact my car shut off midway through the first install try, causing data loss?
